Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Reliability Test Technician to support the electrical, mechanical, and environmental testing of new and existing electromechanical medical devices. This role involves setting up and running test stands, monitoring test activities, documenting results, and supporting failure analysis in a lab environment.
This is a lab-focused role requiring strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and experience working with test equipment and electromechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform reliability testing in the Reliability Test Lab according to test requirements defined by Product and Reliability Engineering
- Set up, operate, and monitor test stands and test equipment for electrical, mechanical, and environmental testing
- Follow safe working procedures and lab protocols as directed by the Reliability Test Manager, Lab Supervisor, and Test Engineers
- Accurately document test setups, procedures, and results; communicate findings to engineering teams
- Perform teardown, destructive testing, and test-to-failure activities as part of product development
- Support verification and validation testing for design changes to existing products
- Conduct competitive product testing as part of new product development efforts
- Participate in collaborative failure analysis with engineers and provide observations that may inform design improvements
- Set up and use a variety of equipment, including:
- Environmental chambers
- Life test equipment
- Product-specific test fixtures
- Mechanical gauges and electrical/electronic measurement tools
- Design and document test configurations and generate clear, organized test reports
Required Certifications
- IPC-7711 or IPC-7721 Specialist Certification from EPTAC or an equivalent accredited certification source (Required)
- IPC-J-STD-001 Specialist Certification may be acceptable with an in-person skills assessment
Preferred / Plus Certifications
- Hand-soldering certification
- Advanced micro SMT hand soldering certification
- (from EPTAC or equivalent certification provider)
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 6 years of experience in testing, lab, or related technical roles
- Strong understanding of electromechanical systems with the ability to identify mechanical, electrical, or system abnormalities
- Hands-on experience with instrumentation and data acquisition
- Experience working with measurement and test equipment
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics
- Working knowledge of mechanical gauging and measurement tools, including:
- Micrometers
- Calipers
- Force gauges
- Dial indicators
- Hardness testers
- Working knowledge of pneumatics
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills
Preferred Experience / Nice to Have
- Experience testing for environmental compliance (shock, vibration, thermal, humidity, EMC, etc.)
- Knowledge of PLC, Ladder Logic, and microcontrollers
- Medical device or regulated industry experience
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
- Associate’s Degree (AA) strongly preferred
- Engineering graduates with relevant internship or hands-on lab experience will be considered
