CTI, Inc. is seeking applications for our Diesel Mechanic Apprentice Program.
This Arizona state-registered Diesel Mechanic Apprenticeship Program is an excellent entry level opportunity for individuals interested in joining the field of diesel mechanics. This is a very unique program because apprentices will spend most of their time learning in a real-world environment. During their on-the-job training, apprentices will work alongside multiple highly experienced diesel mechanics, who will provide personalized one-on-one instruction and coaching in the industry's cutting-edge skills and techniques.
This paid 36 month-6000 hour apprentice program (outlined below) provides hands-on training and the necessary fundamentals to diagnose, service, and repair all types of diesel engines. It is designed to teach the ins and outs of the electrical, fuel, brake, steering, suspension, hydraulic and climate control systems, chassis, and automatic & manual transmissions. This program provides specialized instruction on performing maintenance and repairs on diesel powered vehicles and equipment such as tractor, trailers, generators, and other equipment owned or operated by our organization. An excellent mechanic apprentice has good hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity and are exceptional communicators. They are mechanically inclined, safety-oriented and possess outstanding problem-solving abilities.

Work Schedule: Varies (day, swing & graveyard)
Minimum Requirements (entry-level):
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Valid Driver License with no more than 2 moving violations within the previous 3 years
- Pre-employment background screening & drug testing
- Must have your own set of requisite tools and tool box
- Steel toe boots are required (not supplied by CTI)

On-the-Job training activities:
- Safety, FMCSA, MSHA & OSHA/EAP instruction
- Principles of heavy-duty diesel operation
- In-depth inspection and safety checks of vehicles and equipment
- Diesel Preventative Maintenance
- Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair
- Tire and lube services
- Trailer repairs (pneumatics, live bottoms, belly dumps, flatbeds and tankers)
- Service calls for emergency breakdowns
- Operate manual and automatic diesel-powered tractor trailer combination vehicles on private property; performing tractor trailer switch outs
- Operate maintenance pick-up truck, forklift and other company equipment
- Maintenance record-keeping
- Obtain parts from stock and ordering new parts
Responsibilities, knowledge, skills, abilities and physical requirements:
- Work varying hours and schedules; work over 40 hours as needed
- Maintain a current driver license; must be able to be insured under the company's vehicle insurance policy
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times and adhere to all OSHA/EPA requirements
- Adhere to grooming standards and dress code, to include wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as directed
- Understand and comply with organizational policies and procedures and all applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations
- Operation of mechanical tools
- Assist in various maintenance department activities which may include general maintenance, clean-up, yard checks, laborer duties and assisting other maintenance and office personnel when necessary.
- Ability to communicate information in verbal and written form, as well as the ability to listen to and understand information and directions.
- Add, subtract, multiply and divide in whole numbers
- Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, crawl, reach with arms and hands, grip, speak, hear, see, use hands and fingers, lift, carry, pull, push and/or move up to 50 pounds; and work in elevations of 14 feet above the ground.
- This position is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, toxic and/or caustic chemicals or substances, extreme weather conditions, vibration, equipment under pressure; and is frequently exposed to high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock. The noise level is usually very loud.
