Job Overview

The Labor Pool Employee provides flexible, cross‑functional support throughout the facility based on daily staffing and production needs. This role may assist in various areas—including slicing, packaging, sanitation, formulation, shipping, receiving, or general labor duties—to maintain throughput, product quality, and a safe working environment. Labor Pool employees are expected to quickly learn tasks, follow direction, support overall plant operations. The employee is responsible for supporting and complying with the company’s Food Safety and Quality Management System in accordance with SQF Code requirements.

Schedule: 6:30AM - 3PM

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned tasks in multiple departments (e.g., slicing, packaging, formulation, blending, sanitation).
  • Assist machine operators, line leads, or department personnel as directed.
  • Handle product, materials, or supplies safely and correctly.
  • Maintain line flow by performing basic, repetitive, or manual labor tasks as needed.
  • Labor Pool employees may be assigned to tasks such as:
      • Moving racks, tubs, or materials between process areas
      • Sorting, trimming, or handling product
      • Placing product on infeed equipment
      • Packing, boxing, or palletizing finished goods
      • Assisting with changeovers (cleaning, staging tools, preparing materials)
      • Cleaning equipment, tools, walls, and floors during mid‑shift sanitation
      • Supporting Shipping/Receiving with staging or labeling
      • Performing ingredient, packaging, or supply replenishment
  • Complete basic production forms, labels, and checklists as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate counts, lot information, and traceability when applicable.
  • Communicate any issues to the lead or supervisor immediately.
  • Work cooperatively with supervisors and teammates across departments.
  • Adapt quickly to changing tasks or assignments.
  • Support training of new Labor Pool workers when experienced.
  • Follow all GMPs, Food Safety, HACCP, Preventive Control, Allergen Control, Food Defense, and Quality procedures applicable to their role.
  • Produce and handle product in a manner that prevents contamination, adulteration, or mislabeling.
  • Accurately complete all required documentation and records.
  • Immediately report any food safety, food quality, regulatory, or product integrity concern to supervision or management.
  • Stop production or place product on hold if a food safety or quality risk is identified.
  • Take immediate action to prevent potentially unsafe or non-conforming product from entering commerce.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to apply understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced production environment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Good attendance, reliability, and willingness to work in different areas.
  • Basic reading, counting, and documentation skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for 8 hours.
  • Lift, push, and pull 20–50 lbs regularly.
  • Move racks, tubs, or equipment as needed.
  • Work in cold, wet, noisy, or refrigerated environments (34–45°F).
  • Frequent bending, twisting, reaching, and manual handling.
  • Wear all required PPE.

Work Environment:

  • Refrigerated RTE/processing environment with strict hygiene and sanitation standards.
  • Exposure to fast-paced packaging line with moving conveyors, slicers, and powered industrial trucks (with separation/controls).
  • Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions
  • Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and requires that hearing protection be worn in production areas at all times.
