Develops and implements an aggressive safety action plan. Directly supervises Locomotive Engineers and Remote Control Operators (RCO's). Instructs and examines locomotive operators on the fundamentals of train handling, the use of air/dynamic brakes, positive train control, energy management systems and distributed power, operational/mechanical aspects of locomotives, and associated equipment. Conducts annual certification train rides and examines locomotive operators as per federal regulations.

Conducts annual certification train rides and examines locomotive operators as per federal regulations.
Primary Activities And Responsibilities
- Ride trains for the following purposes, annual train ride requirements on Locomotive Engineers, monitoring of all crew members ensuring they perform according to CSX rules and policies, and Pilot crews for qualification purposes.
- Review performance of Locomotive Engineers and identify areas for improvement, working with ERAD, Inward Facing Cameras, PTC, and other onboard systems and analytical tools.
- Provide classroom instruction and routinely monitor train rides for new hire Locomotive Engineers (Phase 2 OJT).
- Ensure attainment of all service and budget goals.
- Interpret locomotive event and video recorder data for derailment investigations, highway crossing accidents, etc.
- Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager
- Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree
- 2 or more years of experience in Transportation and at least 2 years as a Marked up Certified/Qualified Locomotive Engineer
- High School Diploma/GED
- 3 or more years of experience in Transportation and at least 3 years as a Marked up Certified/Qualified Locomotive Engineer
- Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree
- 2 or more years of experience in Transportation, Logistics, Rail Operations, the Military, or Skilled Trades (building/construction, electrical, mechanical)
- 1 or more years of supervisory experience in Transportation, Logistics, Rail Operations, the Military, or Skilled Trades (building/construction, electrical, mechanical)
- Railroad industry
- Microsoft Office skills
- Mainframe systems skills
- Remote control operation and event recorders
- CSX operating rules
- Personal leadership skills

- Available to report to work with two-hour advance notice
- Hours which include rotating on-call responsibilities which may be outside standard hours
- Wear protective equipment (such as welding shields, hard hat, hearing protection)
- Work with hazardous materials on an occasional basis
- Work hours may vary in length and schedule (may include a non-standard work week)
- Work outside in all weather conditions
- On the road as often as possible within assigned territory
