Duties
- Supervise daily welding and fabrication activities at the Greensburg shop, ensuring work is completed efficiently and safely
- Lead, mentor, and coordinate a team of welders, and fabricators to meet project deadlines and quality benchmarks
- Review technical drawings, schematics, blueprints, and mechanical blueprints to interpret fabrication requirements accurately
- Ensure all welding processes comply with American Welding Society (AWS) standards, ASME codes & standards, and project specifications
- Conduct inspections using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and shop math calculations to verify dimensional accuracy
- Maintain strict adherence to safety protocols including rigging procedures, construction site safety practices, forklift operation, pipe threading, ductwork assembly, and the use of hand tools
- Coordinate with project managers to plan fabrication schedules involving sheet metal fabrication, metal materials handling, assembly tasks, and machining processes
- Monitor quality control by inspecting finished products against schematics and technical drawings while ensuring compliance with industry standards
- Facilitate continuous improvement initiatives by implementing best practices in metal fabrication and mechanical fabrication processes
Skills
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and interpreting mechanical blueprints accurately
- Strong mechanical knowledge related to metal materials, sheet metal fabrication, ductwork, piping systems, and assembly techniques
- Skilled in using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, shop math calculations for precise fabrication work
- Expertise in various welding techniques including TIG welding (GTAW), MIG welding (GMAW), FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), with adherence to AWS standards
- Ability to interpret schematics for manufacturing processes involving pipe threading or mechanical assembly
- Knowledge of rigging procedures for lifting heavy metal components safely within fabrication shops
- Strong shop math skills combined with basic math proficiency necessary for precise measurements and calculations in fabrication tasks
- Hands-on experience with machining operations or soldering when required for specific projects
- Ability to lead a team effectively while fostering a culture of safety compliance and continuous improvement
