What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Control Lab Technician position at CSA Materials, Inc.?
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for gathering samples from plant produced materials and perform tests on aggregates to determine whether the produced materials meet the required specifications typically consisting of hot mix, commercial base, and hot mix aggregates. .
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Use acceptable methods to inspect, sample, and test aggregates, asphalt, and other materials for the purpose of quality control
- Sample and test materials for compliance with contract specifications and quality control tolerances
- Prepare and record accurate information and maintain project test results database
- Calibrate and maintain testing equipment
- Assist customers, both internal and external, in a timely manner including distribution of test results
- Notify the Lab Manager when materials do not meet the required specifications and be proactive in determining the cause and solution for necessary correction
- Follow quality control plans or guidelines as developed by the Quality Control Manager
- Adhere to MSHA and plant safety rules, policies, procedures, and regulations
- Represent CSA values at all times
- Perform related duties as required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Ability to perform duties in a safe and efficient manner
- Knowledge of relevant safety procedures and MSHA guidelines
- Strong written & verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
- Ability to learn all pieces of equipment associated with asphalt and aggregate quality control
- Good math and computer skills
- Knowledge of DOT regulations, such as sampling frequency, sampling methods, graduation requirements, quality requirements, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Preferred level 1A and Agg101 certifications are preferred, but not required
- Ability to obtain certifications required to work on TxDOT projects in a timely manner
- Ability to travel approximately 40% of the time, some overnight travel included
- Must be able to work 10-hour shifts, possible weekends, overtime, and holidays as needed
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Valid driver’s license
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Ability to work in extreme outdoor weather
- Exposure to water, mud, dust, and loud noise
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to perform the following:
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Stand or sit for extended periods of time
- Stoop, kneel, reach, stand, grasp, lift, carry, push, pull, bend or move objects
