About this Job

The Division of Administrative Law is Louisiana’s centralized administrative hearings panel. When disputes arise between certain state agencies and the people and entities they regulate, administrative law judges at DAL provide fair, prompt, and orderly adjudication.

The Administrative Program Specialist A position will serve as the chief scheduler and scheduling subject matter specialist for certain specified divisions of DAL. This position will schedule administrative hearings for certain divisions or sections of DAL, coordinating schedules with approximately twenty (20) attorney administrative law judges and deputy general counsels.

Focusing on Customers: The ability to understand and meet the needs, preferences, and experiences of internal and external customers.
Managing Time: The ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and allocate time to ensure timely completion of work goals.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in administrative services; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR

A bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:


  • Coordinating program information by maintain databases, generating reports, and ensuring information integrity. This position may be responsible for relaying information to others about their subject areas in training or presentations.
  • Coordinates statewide schedules among all program areas and the various offices, ensuring that personnel for both DAL and the respective agency are available.
  • Coordinates workflow, provides technical assistance, answers questions, resolves problems, and determines further actions to be taken with regard to administrative hearings and appeals.
  • Coordinates the scheduling and calendaring of status conferences and hearings, the preparing and sending of notices to parties, and exercises judgement on the rescheduling of matters within established guidelines.
  • This person may travel to hearings statewide and stay overnight if needed.

Appointment Type: This posting may be filled by probational appointment, probation in lieu of promotion, detail to special duty, or promotion.

Compensation: The maximum amount listed for the salary range is the amount a person can make throughout their career in the position and not the maximum amount we are allowed to pay at the time of hire.

Other Important Information: Applicants who have the following experience or education are strongly encouraged to apply:
  • Experience working for a judge or in a clerk of court’s office
  • Experience working for an agency that conducts administrative hearings
  • Experience in a legal setting (for example: a law firm)
  • A paralegal certificate
