About the Intellectual Property — Patent Prosecution Group
Our client’s patent prosecution team supports leading innovators by transforming breakthrough concepts into robust, strategically crafted patents. The team includes experienced associates, seasoned patent agents, and technical advisors who drive prosecution strategy, prepare high‑quality applications, respond to USPTO office actions, and conduct freedom‑to‑operate analyses. Their focus is on protecting mission‑critical technologies and providing clients with the guidance they need to succeed in competitive markets.
Responsibilities
The firm is seeking a Patent Agent with at least one year of experience. Primary responsibilities include:
- Reviewing invention disclosure documents and participating in disclosure meetings
- Conducting prior art searches, analyzing references, and evaluating patentability
- Drafting patent applications
- Reviewing USPTO office actions, formulating response strategies, conducting examiner interviews, and drafting/filing responses
- Managing U.S. and foreign patent dockets
- Supporting due diligence and freedom‑to‑operate analyses
This position is based in the San Diego office , and the firm requires approximately 60% in‑office presence .
Qualifications
- USPTO registration (required)
- At least one year of patent prosecution experience in:
- Hardware/devices, software, databases, AI, wireless, image/signal processing
- Technical background in:
- Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering
- Prior law firm experience strongly preferred
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Collaborative mindset and professionalism in client interactions
