Role Description
The Service Technician performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on heavy equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. This role requires hands-on technical expertise in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, as well as the ability to follow OEM standards and company procedures. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-minded, and comfortable working independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced service environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on gasoline- and diesel-powered heavy equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs according to OEM standards.
- Execute the Service Work Order Repair Process, including documentation of labor, parts, and repair details in CDK.
- Notify management of any unforeseen issues or repairs outside the original scope.
- Test equipment post-repair to ensure issues are resolved.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, including proper care of tools and equipment.
- Collaborate professionally with other technicians, service staff, and management.
- Assist with other branch functions, including Parts and Rental support, as needed.
- Attend training sessions as requested to maintain and improve technical skills.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Educational & Experience Requirements
- 1–10 years of experience as a technician in heavy construction, diesel, forklift, or farm equipment industries.
- Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting and repair skills.
- General knowledge and familiarity with computer and information systems.
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs occasionally.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical/trade school preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with Bobcat or other heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
- Heavy Equipment, Diesel, or Forklift Technician certifications.
- DOT Medical Card preferred.
- Familiarity with OEM repair procedures, warranty claims, and work order tracking.
- OSHA or other workplace safety certifications.
Essential Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds and may occasionally lift and/or move up to seventy-five (75) pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
