Adjunct - Professor of Nursing, On Campus

This is an adjunct faculty position within the School of Health and Science, teaching undergraduate nursing courses on campus and/or supervising nursing students in clinical settings. Teaching responsibilities are assigned by the Department of Nursing Chair.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

This position reports to the Chair of the Department of Nursing, the Dean of the School of Health and Science, and the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:

Student Workers or Teaching Assistants as applicable

EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION:

Works from an office at Crown College. Regular attendance on campus or to a clinical site to complete job duties is required. Equipment used includes, but is not limited to, personal computer and related software, printer, calculator, copy machines, Nursing Simulation Lab equipment and tools related to undergraduate teaching and research. Travel to clinical sites will also be required. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

·          Teach courses within the prescribed nursing curriculum utilizing a variety of teaching methodologies to engage students in the learning process.

·          Facilitate student development of knowledge, skills, and demeanor required for professional practice as a nurse.

·          Supervise students in clinical settings if applicable to the teaching assignments.

·          Stay abreast of scholarly developments in specific and relevant fields as well as current teaching methodologies, curriculum development, and assessment.

·          Participate in measures to maintain compliance with Minnesota State Board of Nursing and Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

·          Support the mission, goals and objectives of Crown College.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

·         Demonstrated experience and expertise in nursing with preference to experience teaching nursing courses at the college level

·         Prefer demonstrated experience in simulation labs

·         Strong interpersonal skills and positive energy regarding professional education

·         Established ability to work effectively as a team member

·         Demonstrate excellence and professionalism in spoken, written and electronic communication skills when with prospective and current students, faculty, and staff, as well as clinical agency representatives

·         Ability to or willingness to learn how to integrate collegiate teaching and the Christian faith

·         Experience or willingness to learn how to evaluate students’ work and report results promptly

·         Agreement and personal alignment with the Crown College Statement of Faith and Community Covenant

• Stamina to stand for extended periods of time (in the classroom, in the simulation lab, and in clinical settings).
• Mobility to allow for safe movement within lab and clinical environments.
• Hand and arm (or equivalent) dexterity adequate to allow for patient care, safe use of equipment, and extensive use of a keyboard for data entry.
• Vocal strength to speak clearly in a classroom and lab for extended periods of time.
• Vision adequate for frequent viewing of computer screens and safe use and supervision of equipment and materials.
• Body strength to frequently lift and/ or move up to ten (10) pounds.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Master of Science in Nursing or equivalent degree

·         Relevant experience as a nurse

·         Current unencumbered RN License

·         Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS Certification (or equivalent).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to the above minimum qualifications):

·         Earned DNP, PhD in Nursing or other equivalent terminal degree

·         Experience as a nurse in acute medical/surgical, ICU, Emergency, or related area

·         Unencumbered RN Licensure in Minnesota

·         3 years of full-time teaching experience, especially in Christian higher education

·         Familiarity and/or experience with standards and assessments, especially related to the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and the Minnesota Board of Nursing
