Position Title: Financial Technician
Location: U.S. Attorney’s Office in Raleigh, NC
Position Overview
The Financial Technician supports financial and investigative operations within the USAO Civil Division. This role focuses on organizing, analyzing, and reconciling financial records to support forensic accounting and legal investigations involving fraud, asset tracing, and financial discrepancies.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, organize, and digitize financial records (bank statements, invoices, etc.)
- Convert financial data into structured, analysis-ready formats
- Perform data entry and maintain financial records in spreadsheets/databases
- Classify transactions and track sources and uses of funds
- Reconcile financial discrepancies and identify inconsistencies
- Analyze financial data to detect anomalies or suspicious patterns
- Maintain organized financial documentation for investigative use
- Assist in preparing financial summaries, reports, and reconciled schedules
- Support forensic accounting efforts, including tracing financial activity
- Identify potential concealed assets or irregular financial relationships
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and traceability of financial records
- Prepare clear documentation to support audits and investigations
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship (required)
- High school diploma or equivalent (minimum)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or financial analysis
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including:
- Pivot tables
- Advanced formulas (e.g., VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, SUMIFS)
- Experience reviewing and reconciling financial records
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
- Ability to handle sensitive financial information with discretion
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or coursework in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
- Experience in banking, financial services, or fraud analysis
- Experience working with large datasets
- Familiarity with investigative or audit environments
- Experience supporting legal or government financial processes
