Crossroads Community Services Board is seeking a qualified CIT Coordinator to oversee and support the development, coordination, and implementation of Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) programming and training.

The CIT Coordinator will build and maintain strong professional relationships with community stakeholders, including law enforcement officers, emergency responders, hospital emergency department staff, magistrates, and other community partners. This position is responsible for coordinating CIT training, maintaining a qualified CIT Trainer Cadre, supporting CIT Assessment Center (CITAC) operations, and ensuring required program, financial, and grant-related data are submitted accurately and timely.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of crisis intervention, CIT program development, first-responder culture, and community collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate-level degree in a human services field that meets educational requirements for eligibility for clinical licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia, such as Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
  • Completion of 40-hour CIT Core Training.
  • Completion of CIT Train-the-Trainer instruction.
  • Previous experience as a CIT Trainer is highly valued and will be considered during the hiring process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, plan, and implement CIT trainings for law enforcement officers and other community first responders.
  • Provide educational training related to mental health crises, community resources, crisis intervention, and de-escalation techniques.
  • Develop and maintain a qualified CIT Trainer Cadre.
  • Coordinate scheduling of off-duty law enforcement officers to maintain appropriate CITAC shift coverage.
  • Maintain regular communication with participating law enforcement agencies and other community stakeholders.
  • Update the CITAC Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) every two years.
  • Maintain required CITAC program data and budget information in accordance with state guidelines.
  • Prepare and submit required data and financial reports to the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) and other requesting organizations in a timely manner.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with law enforcement, medical professionals, emergency responders, Crossroads staff, and community partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that are consistent with the responsibilities and expectations of the position.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of CIT history, program development, implementation, and ongoing program maintenance.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention and de-escalation best practices.
  • Understanding of law enforcement and first-responder culture.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and applicable privacy and confidentiality requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to effectively teach and provide training to law enforcement officers and other first responders.
  • Ability to organize and tailor training materials to meet the needs of first-responder audiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency with word-processing and spreadsheet software.

Additional Requirements

The successful candidate must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of required background screenings, which may include fingerprinting, Sex Offender Registry and Crimes Against Minors Registry searches, and any other screenings required by Crossroads Community Services Board or applicable regulations. Medical examinations or testing may also be required when applicable.
