Assistant Teacher – Kindergarten and First Grade

Assistant Teacher responsibilities:
• Commitment to Crossroads Academy’s mission, values, and community culture
• Assist Kindergarten and Grade 1 homeroom teachers in all daily chores including correcting work, helping keep the room clean, copying, gathering materials, and other classroom duties
• Staff, with homeroom teachers, all homeroom responsibilities including recess & lunch duties, arrival & dismissal
• Provide teaching assistance to maximize instruction as directed by the homeroom teacher (small group work, one on one support, etc.)
• Assist in co-curricular classes (as assigned)
• Substitute for homeroom teacher as needed
• Substitute in other grades when necessary
• Assist with Introduction to Kindergarten program
• Assist with divisional and school-wide events when possible
• Set and achieve annual professional development goals with Assistant Head of School for Academic Affairs
• Respond to email, voicemail and all mail/messages in a timely fashion
• Other duties as may be assigned
After-Care Assistant Responsibilities:
• In the event enrollment is twelve (12) students or over, assist in after-care from 3:00– 5:00 p.m. (2:00 – 5:00 on Wednesdays) until there are 11 students remaining – Days: TBD
• Substitute for the After-Care Director, if needed
• Follow all After-Care policies and guidelines
• Work with students to complete homework assignments
• Understand and follow emergency procedures including:
• Location of Crossroads Academy Emergency Plan, student health emergency plans, first aid kit, and parent contact information.
• Maintain program space in a neat and orderly fashion
• Other duties as may be assigned

• Develop and maintain proficiency in computer skills including Veracross, Google, Word documents
• Effectively communicate orally and in writing
• Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
• Be creative and energetic
• Maintain healthy and appropriate boundaries with all students and school community members
• Maintain appropriate confidentiality
• Ability to frequently sit, stand, stoop, bend, and move throughout the room and campus
• Pass a state and federal background check
Attendance/Hours:
• 5 days a week, arriving 15 minutes before school starts and departing 15 minutes after school ends.
• Attend/assist during two workshop days prior to the opening of school and the first workshop day after school closes
• Attendance is required for the full day on parent conference days and BTSN
• Attendance is not required but is encouraged on workshop days scheduled during the academic year
