Youth Development Director, Alpha - $200,000/year USD

Crossover
York, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 6/29/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 8/22/2026
  • On-site at an Alpha campus located in New York City, NY; Miami, FL; or San Francisco, CA — relocation assistance available
  • $200,000/year
  • Full-time

Traditional elementary schools reduce standards when students face difficulty. Your approach is the opposite. You hold the conviction that six-year-olds possess capabilities far exceeding what conventional classrooms demand, and you have demonstrated this through measurable outcomes on multiple occasions.

Alpha operates on a two-hour academic model. Morning sessions use adaptive applications for content delivery, freeing your schedule for the interventions that genuinely transform children's trajectories: building motivation, developing life skills, providing coaching, and establishing accountability. You directly oversee a K-3 student cohort while simultaneously coaching the Guides—Alpha's designation for the adults who mentor and inspire students—who manage their day-to-day advancement. Your leadership remains hands-on daily rather than distant and office-based.

Your typical day cycles through three core activities. You analyze performance metrics and Coachbot data to identify students and Guides falling behind targets. You conduct coaching sessions that conclude with concrete action items rather than generalized encouragement. And you lead workshops for groups of five- to nine-year-olds covering topics like public speaking, concentration, or constructive feedback exchange.

When you identify effective methods, you document them systematically. The frameworks you create establish standards that all other Guides implement, expanding your influence from a single cohort to an entire grade level. Demonstrating your ability to replicate this excellence creates your pathway to expanded leadership responsibilities.

If accommodating lower expectations seems compassionate to you, this position will not fit. If maintaining high standards represents genuine respect, submit your application.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Using performance metrics, classroom observations, and direct feedback to coach both Guides and students, then maintaining accountability to quantifiable objectives for both groups
  • Leading hour-long interactive workshops for K-3 students addressing life skills including public speaking, concentration, teamwork, persistence, accountability, and constructive feedback practices
  • Conducting individual and small-group motivation sessions that bridge each student's personal goals and interests to tangible academic achievement
  • Developing and iterating on playbooks that codify your most effective practices into replicable systems executable by other Guides with consistency
  • Providing training to Guides on these playbooks and demonstrating excellence in facilitation to maintain standards during team expansion

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Providing direct academic instruction or traditional front-of-classroom teaching; adaptive technology handles content while you focus on human development
  • Reducing standards when students encounter challenges
  • Managing from a distance as instructional coaches and school principals typically do; your engagement with your cohort remains direct and daily
  • Managing campus-wide budget, operations, and parent communications; a Campus Lead handles those functions so you maintain focus on student and Guide performance
  • Advocating for traditional pedagogical approaches or adhering to standard K-12 curriculum structures
