What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Success Coach, Alpha - $120,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- $120,000 annual W2 salary paid weekly, with medical, dental, and vision benefits starting day one
- Based on-site at an Alpha campus in Malibu, CA; San Francisco, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; Boston, MA; New York City, NY; or Miami Beach, FL (relocation assistance available).
Each student holds greater potential than they realize. When faced with difficulty, most adults lower expectations. You take the opposite approach. You understand that confidence doesn't come from praise alone—it emerges when someone achieves what they believed was beyond their reach. If you've ever refused to let a student, athlete, participant, or mentee give up on themselves, this work will resonate with you.
Alpha has reimagined education around one core principle: AI excels at delivering academic content, while exceptional people excel at transforming lives. Students advance through core academics using adaptive AI-powered platforms. Your role is cultivating what technology cannot—discipline, resilience, communication, ownership, focus, and the conviction that difficult work is worthwhile. Your day won't revolve around lesson delivery or grading. Instead, you'll coach students through obstacles, acknowledge meaningful progress, and guide them toward achievements they once considered impossible.
Approximately 60% of your time is dedicated to facilitating dynamic, one-hour life skills workshops covering areas such as public speaking, focus, leadership, and constructive feedback. About 30% involves one-on-one or small-group coaching, leveraging Coachbot analytics to determine who requires encouragement, accountability, or a modified approach. The final 10% is allocated to data review, refining coaching methods, and positioning students for stronger performance in the week ahead. You'll begin with established workshop frameworks, then enhance and expand them as you identify more effective ways to motivate students.
Success here is measurable. A minimum of 90% of your students should reliably meet weekly academic targets, demonstrate proficiency in Alpha's life skills via Test2Pass assessments, and provide ratings of at least 4 out of 5 for their experience with you. Consistently achieve this benchmark and you'll have a defined pathway to Lead Guide, mentoring fellow Guides, and ultimately Campus Lead, where you'll influence the culture and outcomes of an entire school.
This position isn't suited for those who prefer lecturing, adhering strictly to curriculum, or simply occupying students. It's designed for coaches, mentors, youth leaders, performers, tutors, and educators who define success by the people their students become. Every finalist completes a full day coaching actual Alpha students before an offer is extended. If that prospect excites you more than another standard interview, we're eager to connect.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating energetic, one-hour life skills workshops for K-8 students that build communication, resilience, focus, leadership, and other enduring skills while iterating on the workshop model.
- Providing individual and small-group coaching informed by Coachbot analytics, customized accountability, and Alpha's motivational frameworks to ensure each student reaches ambitious weekly targets.
- Evaluating life skill proficiency via Test2Pass and delivering focused coaching until every student shows authentic competence, not mere attendance.
- Adjusting your coaching approach for elementary and middle school learners, recognizing when a kindergartner requires movement and positive reinforcement versus when an eighth grader needs candid accountability.
- Reviewing weekly performance data to spot trends, eliminate barriers, and consistently elevate results across your student cohort.
- Teaching traditional academic lessons. AI manages content delivery, allowing you to concentrate on student development.
- Grading assignments, drafting lesson plans, or preparing students for standardized exams.
- Supervising students as they work quietly on devices. Each day is dynamic, participatory, and coaching-focused.
- Seeking permission before supporting a student in need. You possess the authority to respond immediately and effectively.
- Handling parent correspondence or administrative tasks. Campus Leads manage family relationships, freeing you to focus on students.
Cultivate a cohort of students who reliably meet ambitious academic objectives, gain mastery of critical life skills, and build the confidence, resilience, and ownership necessary to thrive well beyond their time at Alpha.
