What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Learning Coach, Alpha - $120,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- $120,000 annual W2 salary with weekly pay; health, dental, and vision benefits begin on day one
- On-site role at an Alpha K-8 campus located in Beverly Hills, CA; La Jolla (San Diego), CA; Palo Alto, CA; Piedmont, CA; South Bay (LA), CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Miami Beach, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Raleigh, NC; Portland, OR (relocation support available)
The most meaningful support you can offer a student who reaches 99% of their target is to insist it is not finished. If that expectation unsettles you, this may not be the right fit. If it energizes you—because maintaining high standards is your way of showing belief in what a student can achieve—read on.
At Alpha, academic learning happens through AI-powered applications. There are no lectures or textbooks. Approximately 60% of your time is spent facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops covering topics like public speaking, focus, and constructive feedback. Around 30% involves meeting with students individually or in small groups, analyzing their progress via Coachbot analytics, and driving them toward their weekly app targets. The remaining 10% is dedicated to data analysis, translating performance metrics into actionable coaching strategies for the week ahead. You will not follow a rigid script; workshops serve as frameworks, and top performers in this role customize them and create new content when gaps emerge.
A successful semester means at least 90% of your cohort meets their weekly app goals, demonstrates measurable improvement in life skills on Test2Pass, and rates their experience with you at 4 out of 5 or higher. Falling short on any of these three indicators means the role has not been fulfilled. As you demonstrate your ability to uphold these standards, advancement opportunities open to Lead Guide—mentoring newer Guides while continuing to lead a cohort—and eventually to Campus Lead, where you would oversee an entire school and manage parent engagement.
If you are drawn to conventional teaching, prefer ready-made curricula, or see warmth and rigor as opposing forces, this position will not suit you. If your background includes athletic coaching, camp counseling, tutoring where you refused to let a student give up, or performance work that allowed you to command the attention of middle schoolers, the final step before an offer is a full day on campus coaching actual Alpha students. If that prospect is what excites you most, submit your application today.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops for K-8 cohorts focused on public speaking, focus, feedback exchange, and other transferable skills, modifying existing content and creating new sessions when you identify unmet needs
- Conducting daily one-on-one and small-group motivation sessions designed to drive every student toward their weekly app goals, leveraging Coachbot analytics, Alpha's incentive structures (school currency, leaderboards), and individual relationships to overcome resistance
- Administering Test2Pass (Alpha's mastery-based assessment) for each life skill and coaching students who fall short until they achieve mastery
- Adjusting your coaching approach across a broad age spectrum, from kindergarteners requiring high energy and physical activity to 8th graders needing candid conversations and personal accountability
- Analyzing weekly cohort performance data in Coachbot, pinpointing students who are falling behind, and refining your coaching tactics for the next week based on the insights the data provides
- Delivering whiteboard lectures; academic content is embedded in the apps, not delivered by you
- Creating a full curriculum from scratch; you begin with an established playbook and personalize it with your own energy and narrative style
- Passively supervising students at computers; motivation in this environment is active, personal, and continuous
- Waiting for bureaucratic approval to secure support for struggling students; when a student needs additional coaching time, you decide and act immediately
- Grading assignments, running standardized test preparation, or handling parent communication; Campus Leads manage parent-facing responsibilities, and the other tasks do not exist in this model
Ensure every student in your K-8 cohort achieves their weekly learning targets, masters each life skill, and finishes the year saying they loved you.

- Bachelor's degree in any field
