Alpha School is redefining education by helping children master academics quickly while devoting more time to developing essential life skills. In Pre-K, this foundation begins with something even more critical: emotional security, curiosity, and the persistence to keep trying.
Your role: guide an in-person Pre-K cohort in NYC that develops a love for school while achieving accelerated early-learning outcomes—approximately double the progress of traditional preschool programs. You'll create purposeful, sensory-rich play experiences that target specific developmental milestones, document progress each week, and make rapid adjustments tailored to individual children.
NYC offers: parks for outdoor exploration, vibrant neighborhoods with engaged family communities, exceptional public transportation, and connections to leading early childhood education networks.
Create joy. Drive growth. Apply today.
What You Will Be Doing
- Plan and lead 30–60 minute play-based learning sessions that cultivate joy, emotional security, and quantifiable developmental progress
- Build a classroom environment rich in movement and sensory experiences that sustains high engagement and supports four-year-olds learning through varied modalities
- Conduct real-time observation and documentation: Record same-day, objective observations linked to developmental domains, then refresh each child's milestone tracking weekly
- Apply data to inform teaching: Review weekly documentation to pinpoint each child's next developmental threshold and design responsive instructional strategies
- Craft individualized activity modifications based on each child's motivations and interests, integrate one specific developmental objective, and reassess results within two weeks
- Support children through moments of frustration using composed co-regulation and emotional guidance instead of reactive behavioral management
- Share student progress, daily routines, and developing concerns with families in a clear and proactive manner
- Approach PreK as custodial care instead of deliberate early education
- Default to scripted worksheets or compliance-focused instruction as your primary teaching method
- Spend most of your time supervising academic applications rather than facilitating live, experiential learning
- Apply reactive behavioral control instead of calm co-regulation and emotional coaching
Ensure NYC Pre-K students develop a love of learning while showing accelerated early-learning development through purposeful play.
Basic Requirements
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, OR valid CDA/Montessori/Reggio credential
- At least 2 years of experience working with children aged 3–5 in a structured group environment (classroom-based, not exclusively individual care)
- Documented success leading play-based learning that produces visible developmental advancement
- Confirmed capacity to record developmental milestones objectively and reliably on a weekly schedule using a structured framework or rubric
- Strong capacity for relationship-building and emotional awareness: Build rapport quickly, interpret emotional signals precisely, and apply personalized motivators to drive engagement
- Co-regulation and frustration support: Help children navigate emotional surges through calm demonstration and systematic emotional coaching
- Authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship
- Available to work full-time on-site in New York City, NY
