Do you believe authentic learning begins with joy, physical engagement, and relational trust?

Alpha School is reimagining education so children achieve academic mastery efficiently and dedicate greater time to developing essential life competencies. For Pre-K learners, this begins with an even more foundational layer: emotional security, natural curiosity, and the resilience to persist.

Your charge: guide an on-site NYC Pre-K group that develops a love of learning while demonstrating accelerated developmental progress—approximately 2x the rate seen in conventional preschool settings. You will architect purposeful, sensory-engaged play experiences that integrate developmental objectives, then track advancement weekly and iterate rapidly for individual learners.

NYC offers: Parks suitable for outdoor experiential learning, culturally rich neighborhoods with engaged family networks, best-in-class public transportation, and proximity to innovative early childhood education communities.

Cultivate joy. Drive growth. Submit your application today.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Architect and lead 30–60 minute play-centered learning experiences that foster joy, emotional security, and quantifiable developmental advancement
  • Establish a kinesthetic- and sensory-responsive classroom environment that sustains high engagement and supports four-year-olds learning across diverse modalities
  • Conduct live observation and real-time documentation: Record same-day, evidence-based notes aligned to developmental domains, then refresh each child's milestone tracker weekly
  • Leverage data to inform teaching: Review weekly documentation to pinpoint each child's next developmental threshold and design targeted instructional responses
  • Craft personalized, interest-driven activity modifications grounded in individual child motivation, integrate one defined developmental objective, and reassess outcomes within a two-week cycle
  • Support children navigating frustration through steady co-regulation and explicit emotional scaffolding instead of punitive behavior management
  • Share student progress, classroom rhythms, and developing concerns with transparency and initiative with families

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Approach Pre-K as custodial care instead of purposeful early education
  • Default to worksheet packets or compliance-based instruction as your primary teaching method
  • Allocate the majority of instructional time supervising digital learning apps rather than facilitating live, tactile learning experiences
  • Apply punitive behavior management instead of steady co-regulation and emotional scaffolding

Senior Early Childhood Educator Key Responsibilities

Ensure NYC Pre-K children develop enthusiasm for learning while exhibiting accelerated early developmental progression through purposeful play.

Basic Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, OR CDA/Montessori/Reggio credential
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with 3–5-year-olds in a structured group setting (classroom, not solely one-on-one care)
  • Demonstrated success facilitating play-based learning that drives observable developmental growth
  • Proven ability to document developmental milestones objectively and consistently on a weekly cadence using a structured framework or rubric
  • Strong relationship-building and emotional attunement: Ability to build trust quickly, read emotional cues accurately, and use individualized motivators to unlock engagement
  • Co-regulation and frustration scaffolding: Guide children through emotional spikes using calm modeling and structured emotional coaching
  • Eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • Ability to work full-time on-site in New York City, NY
