What are the responsibilities and job description for the Reading Tutor, NextGen Academy - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- Position located onsite in Austin, TX.
- Compensation: $100,000 annually, distributed weekly - Health benefits begin on day one
- Relocation assistance provided
NextGen Academy is a school designed specifically for children who connect with gaming. Learning happens through adaptive platforms, with adults serving as facilitators and mentors. Reading represents the area where early-grade students require the most direct, individualized support—and that is your focus.
You will lead small-group reading sessions for students in grades K-2. Your approach will combine structured literacy techniques with adaptive technology that continuously monitors each learner's development. When a student encounters difficulty with phonetic decoding, you intervene. When a student achieves a milestone, you acknowledge it. Group sizes remain small enough for you to understand each child's current reading ability, personal interests, and individual motivators.
The outcome is seeing children who once struggled with foundational letter-sound correspondence begin to engage eagerly with books—all within a school environment where advancement is recognized both digitally and academically.
Lead learning. Love growing. Apply now.
What You Will Be Doing
- Plan and facilitate small-group reading workshops for students in grades K-2, ensuring phonics instruction is interactive, engaging, and tailored to individual needs
- Modify instruction dynamically according to student performance, assessed reading levels, and observable engagement indicators
- Conduct motivational one-on-one or small-group sessions with students to support progress in adaptive literacy platforms and meet instructional targets
- Review and interpret student performance data generated by adaptive software, using insights to personalize instruction for each reading cohort
- Employ storytelling techniques, humor, gaming-related metaphors, and affirmative feedback to sustain student effort and address reluctance
- Delivering whole-class lectures — learning occurs through self-paced applications and your targeted small-group sessions, not traditional frontal teaching
- Overseeing a full classroom of 25 students — your work centers on small reading groups where each learner receives direct attention
- Adhering to a predetermined, commercial curriculum — you create your own instructional plans informed by live student data
- Teaching esports skills or social-emotional competencies — your role is that of a literacy specialist, dedicated solely to reading development
- Confronting outdated pedagogical systems — this institution was designed from inception to integrate adaptive technology with student motivation
Support K-2 students in achieving accelerated reading growth through targeted small-group instruction and adaptive software integration in a gaming-inspired school environment where daily attendance is enthusiastically high.
