Reading Teacher, Alpha - $120,000/year USD

Crossover
York, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 8/3/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 10/26/2026
  • $120,000 annual salary, paid weekly, with health, dental, and vision coverage starting day one
  • Based full-time at a single Alpha campus: Beverly Hills, La Jolla (San Diego), Lake Forest (Orange County), Piedmont, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, or Santa Monica, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; or New York City, NY (relocation assistance available)
  • 40 hours weekly, 100% classroom-based with students in grades K-3

Your structured-literacy training — whether Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson, IMSE, or a Master's in reading instruction — has opened doors to every K-3 reading position you've pursued. In most cases, it also defined the upper limit: you delivered someone else's curriculum and tracked results. Here, that credential is your entry point. If this difference resonates with you, continue reading.

Alpha has redesigned traditional teaching. Students work through academic content independently using AI-adaptive applications. There are no lectures, textbooks, or pacing calendars. Your position represents the irreplaceable human element. You create 20-minute small-group workshops driven by live app analytics; sessions are intentionally brief because targeted instruction outperforms duration. You also facilitate motivation sessions that ensure 100% of students meet their weekly app targets through Alpha's proven motivational framework (campus currency, leaderboards, developmentally appropriate gamification). When you catch a student's reading error mid-session, you identify the underlying phonemic weakness and reconfigure the next day's workshop before you leave. That is the expectation.

Families at these locations have selected Alpha for results, not simply enrollment. Parents receive weekly reports on their child's reading progress, and they ask questions. You will field specific inquiries about individual student growth, and vague reassurances will not suffice. You will reference running records, identify the phonemic deficit, and describe your intervention. This level of accountability should energize you, not create resistance.

Your initial months focus on establishing credibility. Workshops must be engaging, appropriately leveled, and demonstrably effective; student satisfaction metrics and "love your Guide" survey scores (goal: 90% ) provide direct feedback. Once you demonstrate mastery, your influence expands beyond your classroom: successful strategies you develop become templates adopted across other Alpha sites, and your diagnostic precision influences reading instruction systemwide as Alpha scales. Your impact extends far beyond your immediate students.

Before an offer is extended, you will submit a brief video of yourself delivering an engaging story for young children, and you will complete a full day on campus teaching K-3 students directly. Low energy with children disqualifies candidates regardless of credential strength. This is intentional. Apply today.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Creating small-group K-3 reading workshops based on real-time adaptive-app analytics, rooted in structured-literacy approaches (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, IMSE, or equivalent)
  • Leading daily motivation sessions that drive 100% of your students to meet weekly app targets using Alpha's motivational framework (campus currency, leaderboards, age-appropriate gamification)
  • Analyzing AI-generated performance metrics (fluency trajectories, decoding precision, comprehension indicators) to modify instruction same-day, not only during planning periods
  • Conducting running records, fluency assessments, and decoding evaluations to generate progress visible in weekly campus data meetings
  • Serving as the engaging, high-energy adult your K-3 students are excited to see each day

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Implementing a published reading curriculum, scripted lesson plan, or district pacing calendar; you create instruction from student performance data
  • Delivering whole-class lectures; all teaching occurs in small, targeted groups while students complete core academic subjects through adaptive apps
  • Serving as a reading consultant, teacher coach, or district specialist; you work directly with children in the classroom daily
  • Managing a conventional classroom schedule: subject-by-subject lectures, homework correction, test preparation. Your time is structured around workshops, motivation sessions, and data-informed small groups
  • Drafting IEPs, 504 plans, or formal diagnostic evaluations; student advancement is tracked through app analytics and your running records, not special-education documentation

Reading Teacher Key Responsibilities

Generate quantifiable K-3 reading improvement across phonics, fluency, and comprehension within a campus culture where performance is assessed weekly.

Basic Requirements

  • Structured-literacy certification (Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, Neuhaus, UFLI, or equivalent) OR a Master's degree in reading instruction
  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline, plus 2 years of full-time K-3 structured reading instruction in a school or clinical environment within the past 5 years, utilizing systematic phonics or structured literacy
  • Proven capacity to develop original reading lessons and clearly explain your instructional methods and content, independent of published programs
  • Availability to work on-site full-time at one Alpha campus: Beverly Hills, La Jolla (San Diego), Lake Forest (Orange County), Piedmont, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, or Santa Monica, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; or New York City, NY (relocation assistance available)
  • Commitment to working with all K-3 students (not exclusively struggling readers) and incorporating AI and adaptive-learning technologies into everyday instruction as these tools advance
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Practical experience with AI-driven or adaptive reading systems (e.g., Amira, Lexia, i-Ready, Reading Plus) for lesson planning or analyzing student performance
  • Documented reading achievement results (fluency increases in WCPM, accuracy gains, decoding level progression) you can quantify precisely
  • Familiarity with diagnostic reading tools (DRA, DIBELS, AIMSweb) for creating differentiated instructional groups
  • Background in high-accountability educational settings (independent schools, elite charter networks, premium tutoring where families closely monitor results)
  • Experience in performance, youth sports coaching, or engaging K-3 audiences outside traditional reading instruction
