What are the responsibilities and job description for the Reading Coach, NextGen Academy - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- Based onsite in Austin, TX.
- $100,000 annual compensation, distributed weekly - Full health coverage from day one
- Relocation assistance provided
NextGen Academy is a school purpose-built for students who thrive in gaming environments. Learning happens through adaptive technology, and the adults in the room serve as coaches and facilitators. Early literacy is the area where most young learners need direct, personalized guidance—and that's your role.
You'll lead focused reading instruction for K-2 learners in small groups. You'll apply structured literacy techniques alongside adaptive software that monitors each student's progress continuously. When a learner struggles with decoding skills, you pivot. When a breakthrough happens, you recognize it. Your groups are intentionally small so you understand each child's current level, what they care about, and how to keep them engaged.
The payoff is seeing students who once struggled with basic phonics begin to read eagerly—and doing it in a setting where "leveling up" holds meaning both in-game and in the classroom.
Lead learning. Love growing. Apply now.
What You Will Be Doing
- Create and facilitate small-group literacy workshops for K-2 learners, making phonics instruction interactive, enjoyable, and tailored to individual needs
- Adjust teaching strategies on the fly based on each student's engagement, developmental level, and group dynamics
- Conduct motivational coaching sessions with students to support their progress in adaptive literacy platforms and reach their learning milestones
- Track and analyze student performance data from adaptive programs to inform differentiated instruction for each group
- Leverage storytelling, humor, gaming metaphors, and encouragement to build persistence and reduce learning resistance
- Delivering lectures to a full classroom — learning happens through independent apps and your targeted small-group sessions, not traditional instruction
- Overseeing a large class of 25 students — your focus is on intimate reading groups where every learner receives individual attention
- Adhering to a fixed, off-the-shelf curriculum — you build your own reading lessons informed by live student data
- Running esports programs or teaching social-emotional skills — your specialty is reading, and your focus is literacy exclusively
- Fighting against traditional teaching constraints — this is a school designed intentionally around adaptive tools and student motivation
Support K-2 learners in achieving accelerated reading growth through targeted small-group instruction and adaptive technology in a gaming-inspired school environment where students are excited to attend daily.
