Literacy Coach, Alpha - $120,000/year USD

Crossover
Providence, RI Full Time
POSTED ON 7/21/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 10/12/2026
  • $120,000 annual salary paid weekly, including health, dental, and vision coverage from day one
  • Full-time on-site placement at a single Alpha campus: Beverly Hills, La Jolla (San Diego), Lake Forest (Orange County), Piedmont, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, or Santa Monica, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; or New York City, NY (relocation assistance available)
  • 40-hour workweek, entirely classroom-based with K-3 students

Your Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson, IMSE credential, or Master's in reading instruction opened doors to every K-3 position you pursued. In most cases, it also defined your upper limit: you executed a predetermined curriculum and documented results. At Alpha, that credential marks the beginning. If this difference resonates with you, continue reading.

Alpha has dismantled conventional teaching methods. Students work through academic content independently using AI-adaptive applications. There are no lectures, textbooks, or pacing calendars. Your position represents the irreplaceable human element. You create targeted 20-minute small-group sessions driven by live app analytics; brevity is intentional, because precision outperforms duration. You also facilitate motivation blocks designed to propel 100% of students toward weekly app targets through Alpha's engagement framework (campus currency, competitive rankings, developmentally appropriate game mechanics). You catch a phonemic error during instruction, isolate the skill gap, and redesign the next day's session before you leave. This is the expectation.

Families at these locations selected Alpha for measurable results, not simply enrollment. Parents monitor weekly reading progress data for their children and form opinions. You will field specific questions about individual student advancement, and vague reassurances will not suffice. You must reference the running record, identify the phonemic weakness, and articulate your instructional response. This level of accountability should energize you, not exhaust you.

Your initial period centers on establishing credibility. Sessions must be engaging, appropriately leveled, and demonstrably effective; student satisfaction and "love your Guide" survey scores (target 90% ) provide direct measurement. Once proven, your influence expands beyond your classroom: successful approaches with your students become templates for other Alpha locations, and your assessment precision informs reading instruction as Alpha scales. Your contributions extend well beyond your immediate environment.

Before we extend an offer, you will submit a brief video presenting an engaging narrative for young children, and you will complete a full day on campus teaching K-3 students directly. Low energy with children disqualifies candidates regardless of credentials. This is intentional. Apply today.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Creating small-group K-3 reading sessions informed by real-time adaptive-app analytics, rooted in structured-literacy frameworks (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, IMSE, or equivalent)
  • Facilitating daily motivation blocks that drive 100% of students to weekly app targets using Alpha's engagement model (campus currency, competitive rankings, age-appropriate gamification)
  • Analyzing AI-produced performance metrics (fluency trajectories, decoding precision, comprehension indicators) to modify instruction during the day, not only during planning periods
  • Conducting running records, fluency assessments, and decoding evaluations to generate progress visible in weekly campus data meetings
  • Serving as the engaging, high-energy adult your K-3 students are excited to see daily

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Implementing a commercial reading curriculum, scripted lesson sequence, or district scope-and-sequence; you build lessons directly from student performance data
  • Teaching whole-class sessions; all instruction occurs in small, targeted groups while students progress through core subjects via adaptive technology
  • Serving as a reading consultant, instructional coach for other educators, or district-level resource; you teach students in the classroom daily
  • Managing a conventional classroom schedule: subject-specific lectures, homework correction, test preparation. Your timetable consists of workshop sessions, motivation blocks, and data-informed small groups
  • Drafting IEPs, 504 plans, or formal psychoeducational reports; student growth is tracked through app metrics and your running records, not special-education documentation

Literacy Coach Key Responsibilities

Drive quantifiable K-3 reading progress in phonics, fluency, and comprehension within a campus culture where results are examined weekly.

Basic Requirements

  • Structured-literacy certification (Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, Neuhaus, UFLI, or equivalent) OR a Master's degree in reading instruction
  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline, plus 2 years of full-time K-3 structured reading instruction in a school or clinical environment within the past 5 years, employing systematic phonics or structured literacy
  • Proven capacity to independently design reading lessons and clearly articulate instructional content and methods, without dependence on a commercial program
  • Availability to work on-site full-time at one Alpha campus: Beverly Hills, La Jolla (San Diego), Lake Forest (Orange County), Piedmont, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, or Santa Monica, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; or New York City, NY (relocation assistance available)
  • Readiness to instruct all K-3 students (not exclusively struggling readers) and incorporate AI and adaptive-learning technologies into daily practice as these tools develop
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Practical experience with AI-driven or adaptive reading platforms (e.g., Amira, Lexia, i-Ready, Reading Plus) for instructional planning or student performance analysis
  • Documented reading outcomes (fluency gains in WCPM, accuracy improvement, decoding level progression) you can specify with data
  • Familiarity with diagnostic reading instruments (DRA, DIBELS, AIMSweb) for differentiated group formation
  • Experience in high-accountability educational settings (independent schools, elite charter networks, premium tutoring with results-focused families)
  • Background in performance arts, youth sports coaching, or other contexts requiring sustained engagement of K-3 audiences beyond the reading classroom
