Literacy Coach, Alpha - $100,000/year USD

Crossover
Phoenix, AZ Full Time
POSTED ON 5/5/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 7/27/2026
  • $100,000 annual salary, paid each week, with health, dental, and vision coverage starting day one
  • Full-time on-site placement at a single Alpha campus: Phoenix, AZ; Oklahoma City or Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, Fort Worth, Houston (South Houston or The Woodlands), or Plano, TX; Park City (Salt Lake City), UT; or Dorado, Puerto Rico (relocation assistance available)
  • 40-hour workweek, entirely classroom-based with kindergarten through second-grade students

You've dedicated years to becoming an expert in structured literacy. Whether through Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson, IMSE, or a Master's in reading education, you can identify a student's reading error and pinpoint the exact phonemic skill to address. You can build a phonics lesson from scratch without relying on a scripted curriculum. That expertise is expected. It's not what sets you apart.

What distinguishes you is your ability to captivate young learners. At Alpha, this position is fundamentally about being a Guide: a dynamic, magnetic presence that kids are excited to work with. Your structured-literacy credentials open the door; your capacity to engage a room full of K-2 students during a 20-minute workshop is what secures the role. If the phrase "dynamic, magnetic presence" doesn't resonate with you, this position isn't the right fit.

Alpha has reimagined conventional education. Students progress through academic content independently using AI-adaptive applications — without lectures, textbooks, or standardized pacing calendars. Your position represents the one area where human expertise cannot be replaced. You create targeted small-group reading workshops informed by live student performance metrics, and you facilitate motivation sessions designed to ensure every student reaches their weekly app targets through Alpha's motivational framework (campus currency, competitive leaderboards, developmentally appropriate game mechanics).

Your initial months focus on building rapport and credibility. Workshops must be engaging, appropriately leveled, and demonstrably effective. Student satisfaction metrics and "love your Guide" feedback surveys (aiming for 90% approval) provide direct measurement. Once you establish yourself, your responsibilities expand: analyzing AI-generated performance insights to refine upcoming instruction, communicating fluency progress and decoding milestones to families, and influencing how Alpha's K-2 literacy model evolves in tandem with adaptive technology. As Alpha opens additional campuses, your methods become the blueprint for reading instruction across the network.

Prior to hire, you'll submit a brief video in which you tell a captivating story suitable for young children, and you'll complete a full-day campus visit working directly with K-2 learners. Low energy with students will disqualify candidates regardless of credential strength. This is intentional. Apply now.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Creating and facilitating small-group K-2 reading workshops rooted in structured-literacy approaches (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, IMSE, or comparable methodologies), informed by live student performance data
  • Conducting daily motivation sessions designed to ensure 100% of your students achieve their weekly adaptive-app targets, leveraging Alpha's motivational system (campus currency, competitive leaderboards, age-appropriate game elements)
  • Conducting and evaluating running records, fluency assessments, and decoding diagnostics to monitor progress and refine subsequent instruction
  • Analyzing AI-generated performance insights from Alpha's adaptive learning platforms to differentiate instruction dynamically, not solely during lesson preparation
  • Serving as the approachable, energetic adult presence your K-2 students are eager to see each day

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Implementing a published reading curriculum, scripted instructional program, or district-mandated pacing calendar; you create lessons directly from student performance data
  • Delivering whole-class lectures; all instruction occurs in targeted, small-group settings while students complete academic subjects through adaptive applications
  • Serving as a reading consultant, teacher coach, or district-level specialist; you work in the classroom with students daily
  • Managing a traditional classroom schedule — sequential subject lectures, homework correction, standardized test preparation; your time is allocated to workshops, motivation sessions, and data-informed small-group instruction
  • Evaluating homework assignments or completing report cards; student advancement is tracked through app analytics and your running records

Literacy Coach Key Responsibilities

Provide structured-literacy instruction that produces measurable acceleration in K-2 reading performance across phonics, fluency, and decoding skills.

Basic Requirements

  • Structured-literacy certification (Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, Neuhaus, UFLI, or comparable credential) OR a Master's degree in reading education
  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline, combined with 2 years of full-time K-2 structured reading instruction in a school or clinical environment, utilizing systematic phonics or structured literacy methods
  • Proven capability to independently design reading lessons and clearly explain instructional content and methodology, without dependence on a published curriculum
  • Commitment to full-time, in-person work at one Alpha campus: Phoenix, AZ; Oklahoma City or Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, Fort Worth, Houston (South Houston or The Woodlands), or Plano, TX; Park City (Salt Lake City), UT; or Dorado, Puerto Rico (relocation assistance available)
  • Openness to working with all K-2 learners (not exclusively struggling readers) and to incorporating AI and adaptive-learning technologies into daily instruction
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States or Puerto Rico without requiring visa sponsorship
  • English/Spanish bilingual proficiency required for the Dorado, Puerto Rico campus

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Direct experience using AI-powered or adaptive reading platforms (e.g., Amira, Lexia, i-Ready, Reading Plus) for instructional planning or student data interpretation
  • Documented record of measurable reading gains (fluency improvement in WCPM, accuracy increases, decoding level progression) with specific numerical outcomes
  • Experience in non-traditional or progressive educational environments (charter schools, micro-schools, Montessori, hybrid models)
  • Experience in performance, youth sports coaching, or other activities involving engaging K-2 audiences beyond traditional reading instruction
