What are the responsibilities and job description for the Elite Academic Mentor, Alpha - $150,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site position at Alpha School campuses in New York City, NY; San Francisco, CA; or Santa Barbara, CA
- $150,000 annual salary, paid weekly. Health benefits begin on day one.
- Relocation assistance provided
Alpha employs AI-driven 1-on-1 instruction that allows students to complete core academic work in approximately two hours daily. This model liberates the remainder of their day for life skills development, passion projects, and substantive personal growth. At Alpha's most rigorous campuses, students require more than oversight. They need a credible mentor whose personal accomplishments establish the benchmark: someone capable of assessing group dynamics, establishing expectations, and guiding them through resistance, distraction, and uncertainty.
Your role is not instruction. It is coaching, challenging, and maintaining the same rigorous standards you have applied to yourself. Forty percent of your time involves direct 1-on-1 and small-group coaching that identifies obstacles and establishes ambitious targets. Another forty percent is spent facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery rather than engagement alone. The final twenty percent is devoted to establishing the daily tone: purposeful morning sessions that build a culture where mediocrity is unacceptable.
The trajectory here emphasizes depth over advancement. You begin by mastering Alpha's methodology and earning student trust. Within months, you become the person they trust to push them beyond self-imposed limits. The return is not a title change. It is witnessing a student who avoided eye contact in September confidently address a room of adults in May.
If you have sought a way to leverage your elite background for impact beyond personal achievement, submit your application now.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating 1-on-1 and small-group coaching sessions leveraging Coachbot analytics and student performance data to identify barriers, establish ambitious targets, and ensure accountability for execution
- Leading structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery by drawing on credible examples from your own elite background, followed by mastery verification through Alpha's Test2Pass system
- Establishing the campus cultural standard each morning via focused kickoff sessions that communicate high-performance expectations
- Monitoring student advancement in real time and refining coaching approaches based on data rather than intuition
- Cultivating trusted mentorship relationships with students and families through consistent high standards and documented motivation frameworks
- Developing lesson plans, creating curriculum content, or evaluating assignments (Alpha's academic system manages instruction; you manage drive and commitment)
- Delivering lectures to full classrooms of 30 students (your work centers on high-touch coaching in intimate settings, not one-to-many teaching)
- Supervising other staff members or pursuing administrative advancement (this position focuses on direct student influence, not organizational management)
- Attending traditional faculty meetings or dealing with institutional bureaucracy (your schedule remains centered on student interaction)
- Compromising standards to satisfy performance metrics (if a student achieves 99%, your responsibility is identifying what prevented 100%)
Drive exceptional student motivation, growth, and life-skill mastery at Alpha's highest-expectation campuses.

- At least 3 years of experience in student coaching, youth mentoring, athletic coaching, or leadership roles where you measurably raised others' performance
- Willing to work in-person at an Alpha campus in New York City, NY; San Francisco, CA; or Santa Barbara, CA (relocation support provided)
- Legal right to work in the United States
- Background in elite competitive athletics (varsity D1, national team, or professional level) with experience coaching or mentoring younger athletes
