What are the responsibilities and job description for the Education Coach, Alpha - $120,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- $120,000 annual W2 compensation, distributed weekly; full health, dental, and vision coverage effective day one
- In-person role at an Alpha K-8 school in Beverly Hills, CA; La Jolla (San Diego), CA; Palo Alto, CA; Piedmont, CA; South Bay (LA), CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Miami, FL; Miami Beach, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Raleigh, NC; Portland, OR (relocation assistance available)
The kindest thing you can do for a student who reached 99% of their target is to refuse to accept it as complete. If that principle unsettles you, this role is not for you. If it energizes you—because you know that maintaining the standard is how you demonstrate belief in a student's capacity—read on.
At Alpha, academic learning happens through AI-driven applications. No classroom lectures. No traditional textbooks. Roughly 60% of your time is spent facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions covering topics like public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback. Approximately 30% of your time involves sitting with students individually or in small groups, examining their progress via Coachbot data, and driving each one toward their weekly application targets. The remaining 10% is dedicated to analyzing data and translating findings into the next week's coaching strategy. You will not follow a rigid script; workshops serve as frameworks, and top performers in this role modify them and create new ones when needed.
A successful semester means at least 90% of your cohort reaches their weekly app targets, demonstrates measurable life-skill improvement on Test2Pass, and gives you a rating of 4 out of 5 or higher. Falling short on any of these three measures means falling short of the role. As you demonstrate your ability to maintain standards, you become eligible for Lead Guide—mentoring newer Guides while continuing to run your own cohort—and eventually Campus Lead, where you operate an entire school and manage parent engagement.
If you prefer conventional teaching, need a fully prescribed curriculum, or see warmth and rigor as incompatible, this is the wrong fit. If your background includes athletic coaching, camp counseling, tutoring where you refused to let students give up, or performing in front of middle schoolers, the final stage before an offer is a full on-campus day coaching actual Alpha students. If that prospect excites you, submit your application now.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions for K-8 groups on topics including public speaking, concentration, feedback exchange, and other foundational competencies, modifying the existing framework and creating new content when you identify a need
- Conducting daily individual and small-group sessions that drive every student toward their weekly app targets, leveraging Coachbot data, Alpha's motivation tools (campus currency, performance rankings), and your personal connection with each student to overcome resistance
- Delivering the Test2Pass (Alpha's competency-based evaluation) for each life skill, and working with students who fall short until they achieve mastery
- Adjusting your approach across a broad developmental spectrum, from kindergarteners who require energetic, kinesthetic engagement to 8th graders who respond to direct conversation and personal accountability
- Analyzing weekly cohort data in Coachbot, pinpointing students who are underperforming, and modifying your coaching tactics for the subsequent week based on what the metrics reveal
- Delivering whiteboard instruction; academic content is embedded in the applications, not delivered by you
- Creating an entire program from scratch; you begin with an established framework and personalize it through your delivery and narrative skills
- Passively monitoring students on devices; motivation in this environment is proactive, individualized, and sustained
- Working through institutional approval processes to secure resources for underperforming students; when a student needs additional coaching, you decide and execute immediately
- Evaluating assignments, conducting standardized test preparation, or handling parent outreach; Campus Leads manage parent interactions, and the other tasks do not exist in this model
Guarantee that every student in your K-8 cohort achieves their weekly learning targets, demonstrates mastery of each life skill, and finishes the year expressing genuine appreciation for your impact.
