What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- $100,000 annual W2 compensation paid weekly; comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage begins day one
- On-campus placement at an Alpha K-8 school in Denver, CO; Oklahoma City, OK; Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, TX; Brownsville, TX; Fort Worth, TX; Houston (Central, South, or The Woodlands), TX; Park City, UT (Salt Lake City region); or Toronto, Canada (relocation assistance available)
The most meaningful way to support a student who reached 99% of their target is to decline to accept it as complete. If that expectation unsettles you, this role is not a fit. If it energizes you—because maintaining a high standard demonstrates your belief in what a student can achieve—read on.
At Alpha, academic learning happens through AI-driven applications. No traditional lectures. No printed textbooks. Half of your workday is spent facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops covering public speaking, focus, and the practice of giving and receiving candid feedback. The remaining half involves working with students individually or in small groups, analyzing their progress via Coachbot analytics, and driving each toward 100% completion of weekly app targets. You will not follow a rigid script—workshops serve as frameworks, and those who excel in this role modify them or create new ones when existing materials fall short.
A successful quarter means every student in your cohort completes their weekly app goals, passes the Test2Pass for every life-skills workshop, and 90% report that they love you. Falling short on any one of these three metrics is falling short of the role. In your first year, you will internalize the operational playbook; as you demonstrate the ability to uphold standards, advancement to Lead Guide becomes available, where you mentor newer team members while continuing direct work with students.
If you are drawn to traditional classroom teaching, prefer receiving ready-made curriculum, or see warmth and rigor as incompatible, this position will not suit you. If you have been a sports coach, a camp counselor, a tutor who refused to let a child give up, or a performer capable of commanding the attention of eight-year-olds, the final stage before an offer is a full day on campus coaching actual Alpha students. If that prospect excites you most, submit your application now.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions for K-8 cohorts on topics including public speaking, focus, feedback, and other lasting competencies, modifying the existing playbook and creating new sessions when you identify a need
- Conducting daily individual and small-group motivation sessions that drive every student toward 100% completion of their weekly app goals, leveraging Coachbot analytics, Alpha's incentive structures (campus currency, leaderboards), and your personal rapport with each student to overcome resistance
- Delivering the Test2Pass (Alpha's mastery-based evaluation) for each life skill, and continuing to coach students who do not pass until mastery is achieved
- Adjusting your coaching approach across a broad age spectrum, from kindergarteners requiring high energy and physical activity to 8th graders needing direct conversation and accountability
- Serving as the adult who maintains the standard and the adult students choose to confide in; warmth creates the foundation for challenge, and challenge signals your confidence in their capacity
- Delivering instruction at a whiteboard; academic content is embedded in the applications, not delivered by you
- Developing curriculum from the ground up; you animate an established playbook through energy and narrative
- Passively monitoring children at workstations; motivation in this context is hands-on, interpersonal, and continuous
- Adjusting a weekly target downward to enable a student to meet it; when a student is behind, the solution is to support the student, not to lower the bar
- Assessing homework, conducting standardized test preparation, or handling parent outreach; Campus Leads manage parent-facing responsibilities, and the rest does not apply here
Guarantee that every student in your K-8 cohort completes their weekly learning targets, demonstrates mastery of each life skill, and concludes the year affirming they loved you.

- Bachelor's degree in any discipline
- Minimum of 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 students (classroom instruction, coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program management)
