What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Coach, Alpha - $150,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- You have accomplished difficult things. You have operated within true standards. You understand the distinction between effort and results. If you seek to apply that capability where it alters a young person's path, this position is designed for you.
- Alpha School leverages AI-driven 1:1 instruction so students can complete core academics in roughly two hours each day. That leaves the remainder of the day for life skills, passion-centered projects, and genuine development. At our most demanding campuses, students require more than oversight. They require a credible mentor who can assess the environment, establish the standard, and guide them through resistance, distraction, and uncertainty.
- This is not a conventional teaching position. You will not deliver lectures, assign grades, or develop curriculum. You will coach. You will facilitate demanding life-skills workshops. You will apply data to identify what is blocking a student, then press forward with care and precision until they execute.
- If you possess an elite credential and a history of elevating others' performance, we want to speak with you. Apply to help create a campus environment where students arrive focused, develop real skills, and surpass ambitious targets.
- Facilitate 1:1 and small-group coaching that converts student objectives into consistent action and quantifiable progress
- Leverage analytics and student objectives to identify obstacles and establish ambitious, personalized motivation strategies
- Execute demanding life-skills workshops through credible narrative, reflection, and practical application, then evaluate mastery
- Direct daily opening sessions that establish culture, affirm high expectations, and prepare students before work begins
- Build credible mentor relationships with students and families through high standards, consistency, and sound judgment
- Conduct classes, deliver lectures, or provide tutoring as a traditional instructor
- Develop curriculum, generate lesson plans, or evaluate student work
- Supervise adults, oversee campus operations, or assume administrative leadership responsibilities
- Reduce standards to secure short-term compliance or quick victories
This role ensures that students at Alpha's most demanding campuses remain highly motivated and accomplish sustained growth and life-skill mastery through elite, high-standards coaching.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any field
- At least one distinct elite marker (athletics, academics, career achievement, or elite coaching)
- Experience in people-facing mentoring, coaching, or leadership that measurably elevated others' performance
- Comfort working in high-accountability environments with defined standards and follow-through
- Ability to facilitate engaging, high-rigor group sessions and coach individuals with strong judgment
- Willingness to work full-time (40 hours/week) in person at Alpha's Austin campus
- Legal right to work in the U.S.
- Multiple elite markers with documented evidence of raising standards and outcomes
- Experience applying data and analytics to inform coaching plans and accountability
- Background in selective firms, competitive startups, or elite athletics programs with rigorous performance expectations
