Licensing Engineer I / II / III – Engineering Projects (Contract)

Location: Richland, WA (Onsite)

Schedule: 4x10 (Mon–Thurs)

Duration: 12 months

Openings: 1 (level determined based on experience)

Pay:

  • Level I: $40.00–$45.50/hr
  • Level II: $55.00–$64.50/hr
  • Level III: $68.00–$74.50/hr

Per Diem: $216/day (approx. $79K/year tax-advantaged for non-local candidates)

Overview

A leading nuclear energy organization is seeking a Licensing Engineer to support regulatory and licensing activities tied to major engineering projects and station initiatives.

This role works directly with engineering, project teams, regulatory bodies, and industry groups to ensure compliance with nuclear safety, licensing, and environmental requirements.

Only 1 hire will be made. Level (I, II, or III) will be determined based on experience.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide regulatory and licensing support for engineering projects
  • Interface with internal teams, vendors, and regulatory agencies
  • Support licensing strategy, permitting, and compliance activities
  • Interpret and apply NRC and environmental regulations
  • Participate in industry working groups, workshops, and regulatory discussions
  • Support environmental reviews, including field and onsite evaluations
  • Provide guidance to leadership on regulatory risks and requirements
  • Track and communicate regulatory changes, policies, and standards
  • Ensure compliance with nuclear safety and licensing requirements


Level Breakdown

Level I – Entry / Early Career

Pay: $40.00–$45.50/hr

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 1 year of engineering experience

  • Supporting licensing and regulatory tasks with guidance
  • Assisting with documentation and regulatory reviews
  • Learning NRC and environmental compliance processes
  • Supporting project teams with basic regulatory input

Profile:

  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles
  • Interest in nuclear, regulatory, or environmental compliance


Level II – Mid-Level Engineer

Pay: $55.00–$64.50/hr

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 3 years of experience
  • At least 2 years in NRC or DOE regulated nuclear environment

What they’re doing:

  • Independently handling licensing and regulatory tasks
  • Supporting project teams with regulatory strategy and compliance
  • Interfacing directly with regulatory bodies and stakeholders
  • Conducting environmental and licensing evaluations

Profile:

  • Experience working in regulated nuclear environments
  • Strong understanding of licensing processes and compliance
  • Ability to work independently and guide others


Level III – Senior / Lead Engineer

Pay: $68.00–$74.50/hr

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 7 years of experience
  • At least 2–4 years in NRC or DOE regulated nuclear environment

  • Leading licensing strategy and regulatory engagement
  • Advising senior leadership on regulatory and environmental risks
  • Developing policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives
  • Managing performance tied to project milestones and compliance
  • Representing the organization in regulatory and industry forums

Profile:

  • Deep experience in nuclear licensing and regulatory affairs
  • Strong leadership and strategic thinking ability
  • Experience influencing decisions at the program or leadership level

Required / Desired Skills (All Levels)

  • Nuclear regulatory and licensing experience
  • Knowledge of:
  • NRC regulations
  • Environmental compliance requirements
  • Licensing and permitting processes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to translate technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Microsoft Office proficiency

Work Environment

  • Onsite in Richland, WA
  • 4-day work week (10-hour days)
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Green Badge Level 2 required
  • No on-call requirement

Compensation & Benefits (Contractor)

  • Competitive hourly pay based on experience
  • $216/day per diem (tax-advantaged, not guaranteed beyond 12 months)

Washington Sick Leave (Richland, WA):

  • 1 hour of paid sick leave per 40 hours worked
  • Typically ~7–9 days per year depending on hours worked
