Job Summary:
The ICU Registered Nurse (RN) position is located in Kearney, Nebraska. This role involves providing specialized care to adult patients with complex conditions such as trauma, cardiac issues, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, cardiac device placements, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress. Candidates are required to bring their nursing license on the first day of orientation.
Job Details:
- Minimum Hours Per Week: 36 hours
- Shift Schedule: Nights, with shifts from 0630-1830 and 1830-0630. Self-scheduling is available for core staff; travel nurses will be added in. Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed.
- Required Qualifications: Active nursing license to submit; minimum of 2 years of relevant clinical experience; certifications including Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS); NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with electronic charting in EPIC system; familiarity with monitor reading and interpretation, specifically GE monitors.
- Additional Information:
- The unit has a capacity of 33 beds, with an average census of 16 patients.
- Nurse to patient ratios range from 1:2-3 for adults, with float staff typically covering progressively larger patient loads (1:4 or 1:5).
- RNs are required to titrate various drips, including cardiac, insulin, and sedation.
- RNs will troubleshoot respiratory equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, high flow).
- The department utilizes monitors (GE brand), with teletech oversight.
- Support staff includes Nurse Aides based on census and Healthcare Support Technicians working three days per week.
- Must work a minimum of two holidays, which fall within the contract time frame.
- One shift of department-specific orientation is provided.
- RTO (Request for Time Off) must be submitted upfront and cannot be approved beyond seven days prior to the start of the contract.
