Job Summary:

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) registered nurse position is located in Kearney, Nebraska. The role involves providing specialized patient care in a 33-bed ICU setting, handling complex cases such as trauma, cardiac issues, substance abuse, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress. The position requires coordinating patient treatments, titrating drips, and interpreting monitors, with a focus on adult critical care.

Job Details:

• Shift: 12-hour nights, with shifts from 6:30 PM to 6:30 AM and 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM, with a minimum of 36 hours per week. Self-scheduling is available for core staff; travelers schedules are assigned.


• Start Date: 08/03/2026


• Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale) required.


• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in an ICU setting.


• Educational and Licensing Requirements: RN license must be submitted for approval.


• Patient Ratios: 1:2-3 for adult patients.


• Patient Care: Management of trauma, cardiac, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, respiratory distress.


• Procedures: RNs are required to titrate cardiac drips, insulin, sedation, and troubleshoot ventilator equipment, including nasal cannula to ventilator.


• Support Staff: Nurse aides and healthcare support technicians are available based on census, assisting with bedside care and patient monitoring.


• Monitoring: RNs will read and interpret strips and monitor GE brand devices, with telemetry oversight.


• Float: Typically may float to Progressive Care Units (PCU), occasionally to Medical-Surgical units, with patient ratios of 1:4 or 1:5.


• Orientation: One shift of departmental-specific orientation prior to start; additional RTO requests are not approved.


• Holidays: Minimum of two holidays required within the contract period.


• Weekends: Every other weekend rotation.


• Other Conditions: Artificial nails are prohibited; a pass/fail exam during orientation; candidates must provide a valid drivers license to determine eligibility based on distance; no blocked scheduling unless weekends only.
