We are currently recruiting for 2 Crisis Counselor 1 (Voice) positions for our overnight shift in a remote work environment. There are 2 potential schedules, which both include two shifts a week that are each 10 hours.

The schedules include either:

  • Monday 9pm - Tuesday 7:30am and Friday 9pm - Saturday 7:30am
  • Tuesday 9pm - Wednesday 7:30am and Saturday 9pm - Sunday 7:30am

Prior to an interview selected applicants will be required to complete a pre-screen activity that will be provided via email.

Crisis Support Services of Nevada (CSSNV) has been a lifeline for individuals in need, providing compassionate support and vital resources for almost 60 years. As a 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline contact center in Nevada, we offer an empathetic ear, a caring heart, and a helping hand to those facing life's toughest challenges. Our services include crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and support for survivors of sexual assault.

The Role

As a Crisis Counselor I (Voice), you will provide immediate support and intervention through voice calls. Utilizing active listening and de-escalation techniques, you will assess and address issues including high-lethality suicidal ideation, sexual assault, child and elder abuse, substance misuse, and other crises. Your role is crucial in delivering compassionate assistance and connecting individuals with the necessary resources.

Position Duties

  • Answer crisis calls, offering emotional support, crisis intervention, and resource referrals.
  • Utilize active listening and de-escalation techniques to assess and respond to individuals in crisis.
  • Conduct suicide risk assessments and develop safety plans with individuals expressing suicidal thoughts.
  • Provide information and referrals to appropriate resources, including mental health services, emergency assistance, and community programs.
  • Ensure the confidentiality and privacy of all individuals contacting the 988 Lifeline.
  • Accurately document interactions and interventions in the crisis management system.
  • Adhere to all CSSNV policies, procedures, and protocols, including passing State and Federal criminal background checks.

Required Qualifications

  • Work collaboratively with other crisis counselors, supervisors, and support staff to ensure comprehensive support for individuals in crisis.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in crisis intervention and support.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-2 year(s) of equivalent experience in a call center, crisis hotline, or information and referral service.
  • Ability to type and talk simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress situations.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and privacy.
  • Willingness and ability to complete required trainings.
  • Ability to pass State and Federal criminal background checks.
  • Availability to work varied hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Reliable high-speed internet connection.
  • Ability to work independently and stay self-motivated in a remote work environment.
  • For remote work a dedicated, quiet, and private workspace for handling sensitive and confidential conversations.

The Highlights

  • Part-Time - 20 hours per week
  • Two 10-hour shifts a week with the possibility of picking up open shifts
  • Remote work environment
  • $20-$22 an hour, depending on experience
  • Opportunities to advance within the organization after initial 90-days, including moving to full-time if a full-time position becomes available
