This is a highly visible leadership position that sits at the intersection of technology strategy, cybersecurity, infrastructure, software development, and organizational leadership. The Director will partner closely with the Executive team to develop and execute the company’s IT strategy while remaining hands-on enough to understand and address complex technical and operational challenges.

The ideal candidate is a servant leader who combines strong technical expertise with business acumen, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to developing people. This individual will be responsible for ensuring reliable, secure, scalable, and cost-effective technology operations in a 24/7/365 environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the IT department and establish clear priorities, performance expectations, and accountability.
  • Provide regular updates to the Chief Operating Officer and Executive team regarding IT strategy, projects, risks, budgets, and opportunities.
  • Identify emerging technologies and opportunities for innovation that can provide operational and competitive advantages.
  • Develop and manage the IT department budget, including technology investments, operating expenses, and vendor contracts.

Infrastructure, Systems & Operations

  • Oversee the design, implementation, maintenance, and performance of enterprise IT infrastructure and systems.
  • Establish and monitor best practices for software development, database architecture, network administration, IT security, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
  • Ensure company platforms, services, and systems operate reliably with minimal interruption.
  • Maintain a 24/7/365 technology environment, including redundant disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Analyze system performance, operating costs, productivity, and technology requirements to determine when upgrades, replacements, or new solutions are needed.
  • Ensure internal business systems, including ERP, CRM, business intelligence, and other enterprise applications, effectively support organizational needs.
  • Lead troubleshooting and incident response efforts and ensure critical issues are resolved promptly.

Cybersecurity & Risk Management

  • Establish and maintain effective IT security practices, policies, standards, and controls.
  • Identify and proactively address cybersecurity vulnerabilities, system risks, and operational gaps.
  • Ensure technology environments support applicable compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
  • Regularly assess the organization’s technology risk profile and communicate significant risks and mitigation strategies to Executive leadership.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, hire, develop, coach, mentor, and retain high-performing IT professionals.
  • Establish a culture of accountability, collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and performance management to IT team members.
  • Develop employees and create opportunities for professional growth and advancement.
  • Lead by example through a combination of strategic leadership and hands-on technical involvement when needed.
  • Inspire the IT team to achieve high levels of individual and collective performance.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with third-party technology vendors and service providers.
  • Negotiate and manage quality, cost-effective technology contracts and services.
  • Work collaboratively with departments throughout the organization to understand technology needs and prioritize initiatives.
  • Establish effective communication across teams regarding project timelines, milestones, risks, and impediments.
  • Provide clear, transparent, and actionable communication to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • 15 years of experience in Information Technology, including experience analyzing, evaluating, implementing, and managing enterprise IT systems.

  • 3 years of executive-level IT leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise architecture, software engineering, technical design, application architecture, infrastructure, and IT operations.
  • Experience with IT security, disaster recovery, business continuity, and risk management.
  • Experience managing technology budgets, vendors, and third-party service providers.
  • Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related business productivity tools.

Additional Expectations

  • Ability and willingness to be available outside normal business hours to support critical system needs, incident response, and business continuity requirements.
  • Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on involvement in technical and operational matters.
  • Ability to work effectively in a demanding, always-on environment where technology reliability and uptime are critical.
