What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Group Leader position at Crestwood Day School & Camp?
GROUP LEADERS - Teachers and/or College Graduates - Responsibilities include: Lead the camp group, Manage group counselors and Communicate with parents. Also responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in his/her group. The Group Leader in conjunction with co-counselors and other camp staff will provide high quality outdoor educational and recreational experiences for participants that focus on Crestwood's core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
DATES & HOURS
June 30, 2025 to August 22, 2025 plus Staff Training and Orientation prior; Closed weekends. Closed Friday, July 4. Hours: 8:30 AM to 4:15 PM. Additional hours and compensation available. Lunch is included.
Responsibilities:
- Help implement and carry out a weekly schedule for your camp group.
- Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week. Activities may include crafts, sports, swimming, nature, songs, games, adventure, etc.
- Identify and respond to camper behavior issues.
- Ensure that the site is kept clean, organized, and free of litter.
- Communicate with parents about participant’s experiences and report concerns to Camp Leadership.
- Supervise 2-4 camp counselors assigned to the group. Assign and delegate tasks.
- Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
- Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
- Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your campers’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.
- Attend orientations and training sessions.
Preferred Experience:
- We look for people with strong character and values plus high levels of self-motivation and enthusiasm.
- Education classes or experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Dynamic and Outgoing Personality
Work Conditions:
- Must be able to come to work on time on a daily basis.
- Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities which include, but are not limited to running, swimming, team building initiatives, physical games, and activities.
- Ability to perform a variety of tasks outdoors in different climate.
