Job Description
· Ensure the children’s safety
· Ensure the facilities and daily operations comply with laws and regulations
· Identifies behavioral problems and address them with appropriate strategies
· Handle emergencies and crises, if any, promptly and in a responsible manner
· Participate in professional development training and seminars to enhance work capacity
· Kindergarten Readiness & Instruction: Deliver high-quality, evidence-based academic instruction that strictly aligns with the Florida Early Learning and Development Standards: 4 Years Old to Kindergarten. Focus intentionally on the 5 major domains: Physical Development, Approaches to Learning, Social/Emotional Development, Language/Literacy, and Mathematical/Scientific Thinking.
· State Assessment & Data Tracking: Administer mandatory state VPK pre-, mid-, and post-assessments within the state's strict compliance windows. Analyze student performance data to differentiate instruction and target learning gaps.
· Emergent Literacy Implementation: Apply advanced instructional practices in early literacy, including explicit instruction in phonological awareness, print concepts, oral language development, vocabulary scaffolding, and dialogic reading.
· Curriculum & Lesson Planning: Execute a state-approved VPK curriculum: Robert-Leslie Publishing – InvestiGator Club, 3rd Edition (blending teacher-directed instruction with child-initiated educational play). Submit weekly lesson plans to administration that clearly demonstrate standard alignment.
· Classroom Management & State Ratios: Maintain strong, positive classroom structure tailored to a high-density learning environment. Adhere strictly to the state-mandated VPK ratios of 1:11 (single instructor) or up to 2:20 (with a vetted VPK assistant).
· Parent Conferences & Reporting: Conduct formal parent-teacher progress conferences to share state assessment data. Provide families with actionable resources, portfolio samples, and home-learning activities to actively support their child's kindergarten readiness.
· VPK Contract & Attendance Compliance: Ensure meticulous, daily documentation of VPK student attendance and maintain the required instructional hours (540 hours for the School-Year program or 300 hours for Summer VPK) as dictated by the ELC provider agreement.
· Professional Collaboration: Partner effectively with the classroom VPK Assistant to optimize small-group instruction. Participate in regional Early Learning Coalition workshops and professional learning communities.
Requirements
· 3 years of work experience as a VPK teacher
· Must have Child Development Associate (CDA) and First aid & CPR certificates, meeting the requirements on https://vpkhelp.org/vpk-instructor-requirements/
· Good knowledge of the childcare policies, guidelines, and rules of Florida
· Must meet all Crest Peak Learning Center, local, state or national basic requirements.
· Displaying a friendly and approachable behavior
· Highly reliable and dedicated
· Must have mandated fingerprinting and Level II background screening report completed
· Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. in connection with the handling of children for the facilitation of programs, child safety, and potential emergency situations.
· Must complete yearly minimum 10 hours of Continuing Education Units (CEUs)/In-Service hours
· One year of work experience in implementing Reggio Emilia Approach is a plus
· Knowledge about using Procare is a plus
· Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus
