What We're Looking For

We are seeking full or part time Veterinary Assistants who are enthusiastic, compassionate and eager to grow. Assistants play a vital role in providing care for both inpatient and outpatient animals, working closely with technicians and veterinarians.

Ideal candidates will have:

• Exceptional customer service skills- A warm, friendly, and professional demeanor is essential. Compassion and empathy during emotionally diffult situations are a must.
• Strong communication abilities- Clear and effective in both verbal and written interactions.
• Adaptability- Able to stay calm and focused in a fast-paced environment and manage shifting responsibilites during emergencies.
• A desire to learn- While thorough training is provided, growth through learning is required to thrive in this position.
• Comfort with technology- Ability to work with various computer systems, email, phone systems and medical equipment.
• Team-first mindset- You enjoy working collaboratively in a positive and professional environment.
• Self-Starter- You are able to start and complete tasks without direction or supervision in a way that complies with the hospital standards.

What You'll Do

• The primary role of the Veterinary Assistant is rooming the client and patient and obtaining patient histories.
• Monitor vital signs, weigh animals, administer vaccines, collect samples for diagnostic testing, and offer client education.
• Assist with animal restraint during procedures and appointments.
• Assistants may help technicians with tasks such as nail trims, sample collection, surgery admissions, and discharge appointments.
• Assistants also communicate with clients to provide follow-up care instructions and monitor patient progress.
• Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the hospital, as well as providing daily care and feeding for hospitalized animals.
• Assistants are trained to recognize when a pet needs immediate medical attention and promptly notify the appropriate team members.

Requirements

Educational Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Associate’s degree appreciated

Qualifications & Skills Needed:

• Experience in the veterinary industry and/or with animals (Preferred)
• Veterinary assistant: 1 year (Preferred)
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to assist veterinarians in the practice of veterinary medicine
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions
• Effective communication with hospital team members and clients
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals

Physical Obligations:

• Able to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance
• Endure sitting, standing and walking on hard floor surfaces for extended periods
• Type information for patient records and prescription labels into the computer
• Able to work in noisy work conditions with sounds from animals and equipment
• Take safety precautions for exposure to patient bodily fluids, cleaning chemicals, toxins, drugs, anesthesia and radiation'
