Over the past 30 years the business has expanded to offer advanced plastic injection molding capability with 40 machines ranging in size from 100 ton to 3600 ton at our HQ facilities. In addition to plastics molding we offer world class automated paint finishing capability. Our versatile paint lines can handle parts that are very small and all the way up to 10 feet long. We process an array of performance materials from commodity grades to custom blends and engineered thermoplastic resins.

Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Tooling Engineer located in Kendallville, IN. The Tooling Engineer will design, develop, and implement effective tooling solutions, oversee injection molding processes, and collaborate with the manufacturing and engineering teams to ensure optimal performance and quality. Daily responsibilities include analyzing manufacturing requirements, optimizing tooling designs, and troubleshooting tooling and mechanical challenges in the production environment.
Qualifications
- Identify areas where tooling standards need to be improved, recommend changes, obtain buy-in from other team-members and implement changes to tooling standards
- Provide input for new project quotes to ensure planned equipment is suitable. E.g. required core pulls available, clamp tonnage, shot size, tie-bar spacing.
- Track First Pass Yield (FPY) and target 100% FPY for new, repaired and changed tooling in terms of compliance to tooling standards, and with the use of the Tooling Design, Build and Production Checklist.
- Seek feedback from process engineers and technicians for potential improvement to existing or future mold builds.
- Participate in problem solving efforts for root cause determination of part defects
- Reviews and critiques submitted mold vendor design proposals and assures functional mold performance including Moldflow analysis and part design validation.
- Performs injection molding, downtime, and utilization studies and determines overall equipment effectiveness.
- Requesting quotes for new tooling and for repairs or modifications to existing tools; make sourcing decisions; and oversee the tooling design, build and launch process for production molds ensuring that the select tool shop complies with tool design and build standards, and meets required program timing.
- Propose and evaluate cost saving measures related to molding and tooling.
