What are the responsibilities and job description for the Christian Caregiver at Daycare Center position at Creative Learning Center?
Multiple Positions Available -
Open Shift Options: 6am-12pm, 12-6pm
Caregiver General Responsibilities
- Arrive on time and assist in having the classroom set up before children arrive.
- Use time effectively to ensure smooth classroom operations.
- Show interest and enthusiasm for the work.
- Demonstrate a Christian lifestyle for parents, children, and co-workers.
- Work as a team member to meet the needs of children, families, and the program.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Represent Little Lambs And DMC in a professional manner.
- Attend all scheduled staff meetings, special events, and training sessions.
- Complete all cleaning tasks assigned by the Director.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Classroom Environment & Support
- Support the Lead Teacher or Substitute Teacher in all aspects of classroom management, including but not limited to: assisting in guiding children’s behavior, & maintaining a clean, organized, functional, and safe environment.
- Be aware of Licensing rules/regulations, including ratio standards.
- Be adaptable with scheduling and assist in other classrooms as needed.
- Support the Lead Teacher in following the daily schedule and classroom activities.
Collaboration & Teamwork
- Work closely with the Lead Teacher and other staff members to meet children’s needs.
- Be receptive to direction from the Lead Teacher and provide support throughout the day.
- Assist in engaging children in daily activities at their level and scaffold their learning as directed.
- Help establish and maintain positive relationships with families, children, and co-workers.
- Be adaptable with scheduling and willing to serve as a substitute or caregiver in different classrooms as needed, as well as be aware of all opening and closing center protocols in case you are scheduled for those shifts.
Teaching Substitute Responsibilities
- Caregivers may serve as teaching substitutes and must implement lesson plans created by the Lead Teacher, following the curriculum. This includes using the substitute plans and materials provided by the Lead Teacher and ensuring all required activities (large group, small group, choice time, etc.) are carried out as outlined.
- Provide children with opportunities for spiritual growth through prayer, Bible stories, and songs.
Communication
- Inform the Director of any center needs, maintenance issues, or supply shortages.
- Maintain open communication with the Director in regards to behavior issues or any emergency situations.
- Personal cell phones may only be used during work hours for emergencies or quick responses. If used frequently, they should be placed in a personal bag to minimize distractions. Children should not see a teacher using their personal phone during work hours.
- Follow all Little Lambs And DMC policies and procedures.

Closer Responsibilities - if scheduled
- Follow the guidelines for ratio/threshold of students before combining with another class and closing down any room.
- If there are two or less students in a classroom and the next room will still be at an appropriate ratio, combine to your designated room.
- If there are only children who have siblings in a classroom and the next room will still be at an appropriate ratio, combine to your designated room.
- Greet parents with a positive and welcoming attitude.
- Inform parents of positive interactions from the day, only sharing behavior problems with proper approval from the Lead Teacher, and always using the sandwich method when sharing any problems/concerns.
- Record departure times and make note of any parent communication the Lead Teacher/Director may need.
- Assist children with gathering personal items such as backpacks, lunches, and water bottles. Ensure bedding goes home at the end of each week.
Closer Checklist- All Classrooms/Areas
- Prep spray bottles & put away
- Check/fill classroom supplies
- Empty trash can(s) & diaper pail
- Sweep floors daily & mop as needed
- Vacuum carpeted areas
- Clean blinds
- Wipe tables (3 step process)
- Ensure tablets/walkie talkies are charging & stored properly
Opener Responsibilities - if scheduled
- Ensure that doors remain locked until it is light outside or until the second staff member arrives.
- Greet children and parents with a positive and welcoming attitude.
- Record arrival times and communicate any child changes to Primaries at the end of your shift.
- Assist children with storing personal items such as backpacks and lunches, and help them find their designated classroom.
- Comfort children and assist with the separation process. Ask parents if there are any comforting items or techniques they’d like used, such as taking the child to the window to wave goodbye.
- For latchkey children, ensure they are placed on their bus and record departure times.
- Follow medication procedures and complete permission forms. Check backpacks and bags for any medication; if found, remove and give it to the office.
- Check backpacks and bags for extra clothing, diapers, wipes, and bedding, and ensure these items are taken care of properly.
Opener Checklist (entire center)
- Turn on lights & open blinds/curtains
- Put down chairs in all rooms
- Get iPads out
- Grab phone & put by pitcher
