PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

As an US Citizen, the EHS (Environmental, Health & Safety) Manager in the advanced materials and technology sector leads environmental, health, and safety programs in manufacturing and R&D environments. The role ensures compliance with regulations, drives safety culture, and supports operational excellence while managing risks in high-tech or industrial setting.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. EHS Strategy & Compliance:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain Environmental, Health, and Safety systems.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations (EPA, State DEQs, etc), OSHA standards, ISO 9001, and other applicable requirements.
  • Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal.
  • Support and incorporate best practices in sustainability and continuous improvement initiatives across the site(s)


2. Safety Leadership:

  • Lead site safety initiatives, injury prevention, and operational excellence programs.
  • Conduct risk assessments, root cause investigations, and process safety reviews.
  • Partner with manufacturing production operations, engineering, and leadership teams to identify and resolve and mitigate EHS risks
  • Leads the investigation of accidents, near misses, and incidents; recommend corrective actions and track resolutions. Conducts Root cause analysis (RCA), and supports injury case management.
  • Manage the internal first responder team


3. Program Development & Execution:

  • Lead facility risk assessments, job hazard analyses, and contractor safety programs
  • Create and maintain site-specific EHS policies, procedures, training and documentation.
  • Manage contractor safety programs and ensure proper onboarding and site orientation.
  • Conduct regular EHS audits and lead corrective action efforts
  • Implements, maintains, and improves EHS&S programs, such as: Personal Protective Equipment, Waste Management, Occupational Health Testing, OSHA recordkeeping/audit/compliance Visitor Sign-In Procedures, etc.
  • Manage internal first responder teams and maintain relationships with local fire and safety agencies


4. Training & Engagement:

  • Develop and deliver safety and environmental training (e.g., lockout/tagout, confined space, PPE, hazard communication)
  • Facilitate EHS awareness and engagement across all departments.
  • Serve as a trainer, advisor, mentor and resource for cross-functional teams.


5. Audits, Reporting & Compliance:

  • Manage internal and external EHSS audits and corrective action programs.
  • Monitor and report EHS performance indicators and site metrics
  • Maintain environmental permits, reports, and documentation (e.g., stormwater, air emissions, SPCC)


6. Operational Support:

  • Support investigations, incident reporting, and risk reduction efforts.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing production operations, maintenance, and logistics teams to integrate EHS into daily operations


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Science, Business, Occupational/Industrial Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related field (or equivalent combination of experience and education, including certifications)
  • 7 years in the field/industry
  • Experience and understanding of federal and state requirements and government contractual experience in delivering in accordance with regulatory policies
  • Regulatory knowledge: Strong understanding of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable standards
  • U.S. citizenship or eligibility under FAR/DFAR requirements
  • Leadership: Ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders, and drive continuous improvement
  • Proficiency in EHS software, audit tools, and safety management systems
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and adapt to change.
  • Certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent, OSHA 30 Hour
  • Experience conducting safety work in an R&D and manufacturing production environment
  • Program Management experience and project management experience
  • Experience in metal powder handling, dust explosion hazards, chemicals, or hazardous materials within a manufacturing or industrial setting


Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Safety or Science, Occupational/Industrial Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related field
  • 10 years of experience in a progressively more responsible and related role
  • EHS&S-related certificates, certifications & training: Certified Safety & Health Manager (CSHM); Master Safety Professional (MSP); Certified Safety Director (CSD); Completion of OSHA Courses: 501, 2015, 2045, 2225 & 2455; FSO Program
  • Management for Possessing Facilities course completion; Insider Threat Working Group course completion
  • Experience conducting safety work in a powder-based (metallurgy-preferred) environment
  • Experience with behavior-based security
  • Experience acting as a Facility Security Officer

Technical expertise should include: a working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental, health and safety regulations and identify all requirements that apply or may apply to the facility; an extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and policies and manufacturing processes and processes; a deep understanding of EHS and security-related best practices and risk management techniques.
  • Exemplary communication skills demonstrated by effective, quality, and respectful written and verbal communication and technical reporting.
  • Sound and autonomous judgment and decision-making are accompanied by strong analytical skills, creativity, flexibility, critical problem-solving, strategic prioritization, and risk management.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • RACIs (Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, and Informed).
  • Detail-oriented with a passion for safety and continuous improvement.
  • Training skills: develop programs and provide an initial and continuous curriculum.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The noise level is usually low to high. Work hours will typically be 8 hour shifts, work hours may depend on project requirements and can include early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Environmental exposures may include potential exposures to chemical fumes, dust, or particulates during audits in processing areas (PPE required).


Salary : $120,000 - $140,000
