What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sous Chef - MBU campus dining position at Creative Dining Services?
Creative Dining Services is looking for a Sous Chef at Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis, MO. The Sous Chef supports the Executive Chef and Production Manager, and is responsible for planning and directing food preparation in a university dining setting. This includes supervision of staff and other administrative duties
Must possess a positive, can-do attitude, be detail-oriented and possess a well-rounded knowledge of the food service industry and work to stay on top of current trends in the industry.
This role is tentative to start by August 1, 2026
Typical Schedule: 6:00am to 2:30pm Monday-Friday (occasional weekend or catering event availability may be required). MBU's Academic Calendar means time off over holidays and summer break!
Core Responsibilities
- Time food production such that all food is ready at the time of service.
- Supervise and train staff.
- Read and understand Function Sheets for menus and time of functions, utlizing online recipe and purchasing systems.
- Produce and maintain prep sheets and duty rosters.
- Utilize batch cooking techniques to avoid over or under production.
- Maintain a clean, safe, well organized work environment and work with all members of dining services staff to do so, communicating needs or concerns appropriately and in a timely manner.
- If work shift requires, properly open and/or close the kitchen.
Physical demands & work environment: the Sous Chef position involves physical work of preparing food in a commercial kitchen environment. This position will be responsible for the supervision of kitchen staff to assure the hightest production, presentation and sanitation standards. These responsibilities include moving inventory, product, carts, tables, etc., as well as food preparation and production using kitchen utensils and commercial kitchen equipment. Environment may include hot, humid or cold temperatures. May require extended working hours at times. Must be able to lift/move 25lbs.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Culinary Arts Degree preferred
- Minimum of 3 years cooking experience - high volume
- Supervisory experience
- ServSafe Certification
- First Aid training
