Position Summary
The Swiss Machine Shop Support role is an important hands-on position that keeps daily production running smoothly. This role supports machine operators and setup technicians by managing material flow, maintaining coolant and lubrication levels, performing chip disposal, and assisting with routine equipment clean-outs. The right candidate is dependable, mechanically inclined, and eager to learn the fundamentals of Swiss-style CNC machining.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor assigned machines as directed to maintain production flow.
- Manage chip disposal—collect, transport, and empty chip bins into recycling containers safely and efficiently operate the chip spinning machine.
- Perform material movement tasks, including staging bar stock and removing finished parts from the production area.
- Check and top off oil and coolant in machines; assist in maintaining fluid concentration levels as needed.
- Help with sump cleaning and other preventive maintenance activities on CNC equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area according to 5S principles.
- Support operators during part run changes, including loading bar stock and checking for basic tooling presence.
- Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE at all times.
- Assist with light machine operation as skills develop—starting cycles, basic inspections, and handling parts.
- Assist with operating the part washing machine.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior work in a manufacturing or machine shop environment preferred but not required.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn machining processes.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Basic understanding of hand tools and shop equipment.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and teamwork.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience with CNC or Swiss-style machines a plus.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts or pallet jacks (training provided).
- Interest in growing into a machinist or setup operator role.
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
