We're looking for a well-rounded, experienced and detail-oriented individual to join our team. The successful candidate will have a background in both legal research and client interaction, be admitted to practice law in the State of New York. The Staff Attorney will be responsible for handling all aspects of civil litigation, including drafting motions, briefs and discovery requests. Prior experience of five years or more is a plus, however, a candidate may have less experience.
The successful candidate must exhibit a strong desire to practice public interest law, civil rights, civil liberties, and human rights, in particular.
Addmissions to the the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York and/or the United States District Clourt for the Eastern District of New York, and/or the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, is a plus, although not requried.
Fluency in Spanish and/or French is a plus, although not required.
The position is a remote position to the extent that a particular judge may require an appearance in court. However, given that most judicial proceedings continue to remote, the position is remote. Once in a why one may have to come into the Firm's office, such as a holiday party, provided that the conditions for such are safe.
The position requries an initial probationary period of six (6) month, after which the successful candidate becomes eligible for employment benefits.
The position provides for an increase in pay upon the succesful completion of the probationary period, and for year-end bonuses.
Responsibilities:
- Draft and review legal documents.
- Cite relevant federal and state case law when working with contracts or requests for legal services.
- Prepare briefs and oral arguments for court appearances.
- Negotiate settlements with opposing parties.
- Litigate cases in state and federal courts.
- Draft appeal briefs to higher court when necessary.
- Work as part of a team.
- Provide legal counsel to company departments.
- Interview all relevant parties prior to drafting a complaint or response.

Pay: $72,000.00 - $78,000.00 per year
