Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Room and/or Medical Unit (PRN)

Summary:  Provides nursing care to emergency room patients and outpatients in a safe and professional manner, utilizing established policies and procedures, physician orders, protocols, standards of care, ACLS, PALS and TNCC.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• General:
  • Adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures

  • Promotes the mission of Crawford County Memorial Hospital

  • Provides quality care

  • Demonstrates values and behaviors according to Values Statement

• Specific:

  • Provides care to all emergency patients and outpatients including administering medications, IV’s and treatments.

  • Document care provided and patient’s response to care.

  • Assess and provide patient and family teaching as needs arise.

  • Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team/other departments.

  • Assists and participates in QAPI activities.

  • Recognizes self-learning needs and is accountable for maximizing professional growth and development and optimal emergency nursing practice.

  • Ensures that supplies and equipment are readily available and in working order. Orders and restocks supplies as needed

  • Completes charge sheets on patients and ensures that charges are accurate and reflect the care that the patient received.

  • Adheres to safety and confidentiality policies.

  • Supports customer service.

  • Assists in other departments as needed.

  • Schedules outpatient procedures, which may include setting up time with patient, ensuring adequate diagnosis and orders are on order sheet and ensuring labs are completed when required.

  • Act as resource person/supervisor for activities/patient care performed by EMS staff working in the Emergency Department.

  • Triages each patient and determines priority of care based on assessment and analyzes the factors influencing patient flow through the emergency care system.

  • Performs accurate initial and ongoing assessments of patients.

 Education/Certification Requirements:

• General:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current licensure as an RN in the State of Iowa or a compact state

• Specific:

  • BLS - within one month of employment in the Emergency Room

  • ACLS

  • TNCC – within one year of employment in the Emergency Room

  • PALS

  • Prefer NRP
