QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and/or Experience:
Successful completion and graduation from an accredited associate’s degree Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
Two years occupational therapy experience preferred
Meet state license/certification requirements.

JOB GOAL:
The occupational therapy assistant works with students identified with having disabilities that interfere with their ability to perform daily life activities and participate in necessary and desired occupations and limit their functional academic development and access to the general curriculum.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- May support and assist the occupational therapist in the therapist’s evaluation of student’s abilities through a variety of functional, behavioral, and standardized assessments, data collection, checklists, and interviews with family, student and educational personnel, and observations once competency has been demonstrated.
- May contribute to the occupational therapist development of individualized intervention plans. Participates in planning and program development with the instruction team which may include Physical Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist, Special Education staff, Principal and instructional staff.
- Based on the intervention plan, selects and implements therapeutic interventions to enhance student performance in areas of occupation, safety, and social participation within the school environment.
- Based on the intervention plan modifies environment including equipment, materials, devices, and adapts processes including the application of ergonomic principles.
- Explains intervention techniques to student and educational personnel.
- Continuously monitors through observation and consultation student progress and the effect of intervention and need for continuation, modification, or termination. Communicates this information to the occupational therapist.
- Documents occupational therapy intervention services and maintains administrative records in accordance with state guidelines and school policy.
- May contribute information to multi-disciplinary team meetings assessing student progress.
- Maintains inventory of therapeutic equipment and projects needs for budget planning.
- Maintains, organizes, and prioritizes workload and treatment environments including inventories.
- Uses professional literature to make informed practice decisions.
- Uses good time management skills.
- Perform other reasonable duties during the work day that the immediate supervisor may assign.
SUPERVISION GIVEN:
Technical and functional consultation given to various staff as necessary.
NOTE: Person who holds a limited license is authorized to practice occupational therapy while under the direct supervision of a licensed occupational therapist and only while the occuptational therapist is on the premise where services are being provided.

10 month full time work year. Salary and benefits as established by the Board.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job shall be evaluated by the Director of Exceptional Student Services, in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of support personnel.
