Cramer Coil and Transformer, founded in 1964, is a leader in the design and manufacture of magnetics for high frequency and other custom electronic applications. We sell to the industrial, medical, battery charging, as well as many other industries. We are currently seeking a Design Engineer to join our team.
Position Summary:
In this role you will design innovative magnetic products that meet customer requirements, engineering best practices, industry standards, and company standards. You will support existing production with raw material changes, root cause analysis of quality issues, and development of corrective action plans.
General Responsibilities:
- Design and develop high-frequency magnetic components (transformers, inductors, chokes) that meet customer requirements and timeline.
- Support design changes for existing product lines. Root cause design related issues in manufacturing or in the field. Define corrective action plans to be implemented by internal manufacturing or vendors.
- Work with customers to understand operating conditions and requirements for magnetic components. Optimize magnetic designs for thermal performance, manufacturability, size, and cost. Perform simulations and modeling using analytical tools and ANSYS Maxwell.
- Work with a range of core materials and utilize various magnetic construction methods including bobbin-wound, toroidal, and planar formats.
- Continuously improve design model accuracy, and continually add to Cramer’s
- Ensure designs meet UL, IEC, and other international safety and performance standards.
- Collaborate closely with the manufacturing engineering team throughout the design process to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost effective.
- Produce detailed design documentation, including technical specifications, test plans, BOM, labor steps, and compliance records. Complete the product review process before sending samples to the customer.
- Collaborate across departments to introduce products into manufacturing.
Professional/Technical Experience, Skills and Education:
At a minimum a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical or Electromechanical), Physics, or equivalent experience.
Minimum 2 years’ experience in design of high frequency magnetics (above 5-500kHz).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
Experience with Ansys Maxwell strongly preferred
Experience with 3D modelling strongly preferred
Laboratory and testing experience required
Hands on prototyping and basic fabrication skills required
Familiarity with UL standards and safety requirements strongly preferred
Programming experience a plus
Soldering skills a plus

Salary : $65,000 - $120,000
