The Amador Water Agency is seeking a skilled and driven Resident Engineer to lead critical water and wastewater infrastructure projects that directly impact the community. This is a hands-on leadership role where engineering expertise meets field execution—ideal for someone who thrives managing projects, solving complex challenges, and guiding teams from concept through construction.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and oversee the construction and maintenance of raw water, water distribution, and wastewater systems
- Manage multiple capital and developer-driven projects from design through completion
- Review engineering plans, specifications, and technical reports
- Coordinate with contractors, developers, regulatory agencies, and internal teams
- Resolve construction issues, negotiate change orders, and support contract administration
- Supervise and mentor field staff and ensure safe, efficient operations
- Support budgeting and long-term planning for engineering projects

- Strong background in civil engineering, construction management, or public works
- Experience managing water/wastewater infrastructure projects
- Ability to balance technical expertise with leadership and field coordination
- Skilled in project management, problem-solving, and stakeholder communication
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and standard engineering software
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred)
- Five (5) years of experience in civil engineering or public works construction
- Experience with water distribution, wastewater collection, or treatment systems
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required

Work Environment
This role combines office and field work, including active construction sites with exposure to weather, equipment, and varying terrain. Candidates should be comfortable working outdoors and in dynamic environments. When not in the field, the Resident Engineer will be expected to work from the AWA headquarters at 12800 Ridge Road, Sutter Creek, CA 95685.
Schedule
Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (Some overtime or schedule flexibility may be required)
AWA offers a 9/80 schedule; no hybrid or remote work will be available at this time.
Salary : $118,732 - $148,415
