Purpose/Introduction
Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a Lab Tester to join our team at our Pasadena Plastics Complex in Pasadena, Texas. The Lab Tester will be responsible for performing technical laboratory duties in support of the Polyethylene Units at the plant.
This position requires the successful candidate to perform routine testing and analytical data entry. Instrumental analyses include the following types of equipment: gas chromatograph, XRF, FTIR, DSC, colorimeter, titrator and other instrumentation. Familiarity with physical testing such as polymer density, melt index and film extrusion is a plus. The job duties also include certification of product, routine instrument calibration, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. This position requires a familiarity with LIMS databases, Chromatography Data Systems and SQC methods. Perform other duties as needed.
Responsibilities
Performs work in compliance with all safety, environmental, and health regulations
Performs work in compliance with the Lab’s Quality Manual and any site quality management systems
Maintain proficiency in required laboratory test methods
Proficient in adhering to and executing Lab Standard Operating Procedures
Performs a high volume of routine tests with a short turnaround time
Regularly gathers data for charts, records, and reports
Verifies calibration of laboratory instruments and equipment
Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs laboratory instruments and equipment
Communicates quality issues with operating units and other customers
Safeguards all laboratory test results
Uses StarLIMS (LIMS), Biovia Notebook (ELN), Ensur (DCS) or other applicable software for data and records documentation
Monitors the inventory of essential laboratory supplies
Orders supplies and services based on Company and Lab policies and procedures
Conducts analyses of data to validate and assess the performance of test methods
Required Qualifications
Two-year associate degree in Chemistry, laboratory technician, or a related chemical field, from an accredited college with a minimum 16 hours of Chemistry, including General Chemistry I & II and Organic Chemistry I & II.
Required to work 12 hour rotating shift including nights, holidays, weekends, and overtime as necessary.
Able to lift a minimum of 35 pounds.
Must have a valid driver's license.
Able to act in accordance with established safety guidelines and processes.
Must be a team player; possess analytical skills and excellent verbal skills.
Must have excellent time-management and organizational skills.
Successful candidate should be familiar with suite of Microsoft Products.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a science discipline.
2 years of lab experience.
Familiarity with physical testing such as polymer density, melt index and film extrusion.
Familiarity with QA/QC lab operation and practical working experience with various laboratory instruments including gas chromatograph, XRF, FTIR, DCS, colorimeter and titrator.
Experience working in the petrochemical industry.
