GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Materials Manager is responsible for the end-to-end supply chain and procurement operations supporting CP North America’s manufacturing, engineering, and customer service organizations. This role leads supplier relationships, negotiates OEM-level agreements, manages purchasing personnel, and partners with Operations and Sales to align materials procurement with production schedules and customer demand.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supply Chain & Procurement
· Manage the supply chain for all materials and suppliers to ensure optimal lead times, cost effectiveness, and quality.
· Negotiate and administer contracts and strategic partnerships with OEMs, distributors, and other suppliers.
· Prepare and issue purchase orders, solicit bids, and review requisitions for goods and services.
· Evaluate suppliers based on pricing, quality, service, reliability, capacity, communication, and overall performance.
· Analyze proposals, cost structures, and financial information to determine reasonable and competitive pricing.
· Monitor market conditions, supply availability, and price trends affecting supply and demand.
· Maintain accurate purchasing, cost, delivery, performance, and inventory records.
Inventory Management
· Manage inventory levels to support production and customer demand while minimizing excess and obsolescence.
· Performs cycle counts and ensures accuracy of inventory records.
· Complete annual physical inventory audits.
· Review inventory history and demand trends to develop strategic purchasing plans.
Operations & Cross-Functional Support
· Collaborate with Operations on demand planning, production scheduling, order processing, logistics, and customer service as needed.
· Coordinate with Engineering to support technical and commercial approval of new and existing suppliers.
· Maintain a working technical knowledge of purchased materials, components, and services.
· Communicate End-of-Life (EOL) part notifications to Sales, Purchasing, and Engineering, including documentation and customer authorization.
Supplier Performance & Quality
· Develop, implement, and track supplier Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including on-time delivery (OTD) and quality metrics.
· Initiate corrective actions with suppliers to address performance or quality issues.
· Manage supplier Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) as applicable.
· Support Quality in Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) as required.
· Address defective or unacceptable goods with suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure resolution.
Leadership & Team Management
· Hire, train, develop, and evaluate purchasing personnel in coordination with Human Resources.
· Provide leadership and guidance to ensure consistent purchasing practices and compliance with company policies.
Additional Responsibilities
· Utilize industry resources, trade publications, and internal inputs to identify sourcing opportunities.
· Visit supplier facilities as needed to evaluate capabilities, products, and services.
· Perform other duties as assigned to support business objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Proven experience in materials management, supply chain, procurement, or manufacturing environments.
· Strong leadership, negotiation, analytical, and decision-making skills.
· Proficiency with ERP systems, inventory management software, and Microsoft Office.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality systems, cost controls, and logistics.
· Familiarity with electronic components, circuit boards, processors, and related hardware.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
· A bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
