General Definition of Work
Performs difficult skilled technical and administrative work planning, facilitating, and organizing the operation of the Fleet shop. Trains technicians in the diagnostic and repair processes utilized in the shop for various types of equipment and motor vehicles. Ensures safe work conditions, practices and methods are utilized in the shop and for work that is performed in the field. Related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Division Chief. Continuous supervision is exercised over assigned mechanics.

Essential Functions
Plans, directs, oversees, and coordinates the work and tasks of assigned Fleet shop staff to maximize the efficiency of shop operations.
Trains shop personnel and mechanics in the methods used in fleet maintenance and repair, including safety practices.
Supervises assigned mechanics and examines work in progress and completed repairs.
Schedules necessary repairs with customers based upon priorities, workloads, staffing, and parts/materials availability.
Performs detailed documentation on all work orders to keep accurate records of parts, supplies, and labor utilized to complete each work order; maintains all records including purchasing invoices for Fleet shop
Assists the Division Director in the monitoring and enforcement of safety procedures and protocols
Receives, investigates, and responds to customer inquiries and complaints
Leads and oversees quality control processes, to include vehicles and equipment that are frequently brought back to the shop for recurring issues to determine the root cause of the issue.
Documents apparent instances of equipment and vehicle abuse or misuse and communicates with supervisors regarding such instances to facilitate training in proper operation or disciplinary action, as appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization and department policies, practices, and procedures; thorough knowledge of related industry, organization and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances, and laws; comprehensive knowledge of engine and electrical diagrams, auto software, and scan tools; thorough knowledge of part order forms, billing, maintenance reports, and attendance forms; ability to operate a forklift and other shop related equipment-tire machines, etc; ability to operate standard office equipment; thorough understanding of standard office and accounting software; comprehensive knowledge of fleet and manufacturer software; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, associates, and the general public.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED and considerable experience in shop supervision or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm’s length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, frequently requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to the risk of electrical shock and wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
Special Requirements
Obtain Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Correctional Officer certification within six months.
Possession of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification preferred
Favorable background history as determined by review of local, State and Federal records.
Valid driver's license in the State of Georgia with a favorable driving history.
