Overview
Cowan Group Engineering (CGE) is seeking a motivated Engineer Intern I ready to build a strong foundation in civil engineering through hands-on design and project delivery. Opportunities are available in transportation, water/wastewater, and site planning and development. In this role, you will work alongside experienced engineers and project managers on real-world infrastructure and development projects, contributing to design from early concepts through final plans and construction support. You will perform meaningful technical work, participate in site visits, coordinate with project teams, and take on increasing responsibility as your skills grow. This position offers a strong opportunity to develop your design capabilities, understand the full project lifecycle, and build toward greater project responsibility and professional licensure at CGE.
What You’ll Do
- Assist with conceptual and final engineering design and preparation of construction plans.
- Perform engineering calculations and analyze technical design data using applicable codes, standards, and design software.
- Conduct site visits and gather project and field information.
- Develop design sketches and project elements for review by a Project Engineer or Project Manager.
- Address review comments from clients, agencies, and other reviewing parties.
- Prepare quantity calculations, construction cost estimates, technical specifications, bid items, and project documentation.
- Prepare documents required by regulatory and funding agencies.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Project Engineers, subconsultants, and other members of the project team.
- Review work for accuracy, quality, and compliance with project requirements.
- Support preparation of drawings, plats, maps, easements, cross sections, and other engineering exhibits.
