Overview
Cowan Group Engineering (CGE) seeks motivated Engineering Interns to participate in a hands-on, rotational internship program while completing an engineering degree. Interns gain real-life experience on active civil engineering projects while working alongside professional engineers, project managers, surveyors, construction professionals, and other technical staff in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. The summer internship is structured as a 12-week rotation that provides exposure to multiple civil engineering disciplines and includes office assignments, site visits, field experience, organizational activities, and company activities.
What You’ll Do
- Participate in a 12-week rotational internship gaining experience across civil engineering disciplines, including Transportation, Water and Wastewater, Drainage, Site Development, Construction Management, and exposure to Land Survey.
- Contribute to real-life design assignments for municipal infrastructure, transportation, and site development projects.
- Assist project teams with the development of conceptual, preliminary, and final design elements under the guidance of experienced engineers.
- Prepare and modify engineering drawings, plan sheets, profiles, details, and other design deliverables using Civil 3D and/or OpenRoads where applicable.
- Support engineering calculations and technical analysis for project design, including roadway, utility, grading, drainage, and other civil infrastructure elements depending on the rotation.
- Assist with quantity calculations, cost estimates, specifications, and other project documents that support design and construction.
- Participate in site visits and field investigations to understand existing conditions, constructability, and how engineering designs are implemented in the field.
- Participate in project team meetings, coordination, and organizational activities that provide exposure to how engineering projects and teams are managed.
- Participate in company activities, events, and outings and build relationships with employees across CGE.
